Sony has been an A+ premium brand in sound systems for decades. Unlike Samsung for example that uses Harman/Kardon Sony does it themselves. This is really where Sony has a leg up on its competitors. Disclaimer: I have a HT5000, Samsung q60r, andsome sub $300 2.1 bars.Materials are at a premium. The sound bar tries to match it’s 5000 big brother as they have the same paint with glitter flecks. The sub is more neutral. The remote is well made as well. All the hallmarks of a Sony product. The bar comes with a sub, all the cables, remote with batteries, ect. The bar features an HDMI out only. This the only issue I take with the bar as this should have an in port as well. I use the opt cable and all is well. Bluetooth is easy to connect, however it will always be slightly out of sync so I never recommend using it in any situation for any sound bar. Quality is fantastic. The bar is large for 2.1 so this is a dead give away, this is not normal. Comparing this to my q60r, I think the q60r has more range and slightly sounds better, it is to close to tell. I could be mistaken. Yes, it competes with a good 5.1 system; so well that I am puzzled. I should compare this to my 2.1 bars, but that’s like ear buds to noise cancelling headphones. It can not compare to the 5000 as that is to premium full surround sound as this is to 5.1 sound bars. Yes the 5000 and 7000 are that good. The 5000 is simply the best sound option for under a grand, this is possibly the best for under $500. If you are curious of how good the 400 is, it is cinema quality, the 5000 is you are there quality. The 400 is loud, clear, and booms with no reverb. The sound has depth, the surround experience is nothing short of fantastic. As it is on par with most name brand 5.1 set ups. Out of two speakers! The sub is no different. It is well mated with the bar. Two speakers, and it is shocking. Unless you want to spend the extra for the 5 or 7000 this will probably be the best sound system for the money. It might be anyway. Sony built the 400 as a product for most users. Those users will not be disappointed and are getting a lot of bang for the buck.

I’m going to be honest with you. We’ve gone through about seven different soundbars alone, for the Samsung smart TV in our master bedroom. Just in the last two years. Every single soundbar, with or without a matching sub, has mostly been a disappointment. Not loud enough. The highs weren’t crisp enough. No actual bass response. Bluetooth wouldn’t work, even when advertised as having a Bluetooth option. I was getting frustrated. And then, the Sony HT-S400 arrived…..Know what’s funny? The first thing that intrigued me about the HT-S400 was actually the packaging. The box is shaped like something you’d get for a small dining room chair. I opened the box, got everything out. Flipped through the instructions, but still didn’t let my hopes get too high. After all, the other soundbars let me down. Should this one be any different? This soundbar is unlike anything you’ve ever used before. The first thing I did was pull up a speaker test video on Youtube. There are a variety of videos that allow you to check the highs and lows of any set of speakers. The highs were good. Then when it came time to check the lows, I was amazed. Rich, deep bass. Two of our new kittens (Tigger & Odin) were so curious about the sub. They could feel the slight vibration in the floor. Finally, a sub for my TV or PC that wasn’t garbage. I was ecstatic.I really like the ease of how you can adjust the bass levels through the included remote. So if my Wife and I are watching something with lots of dialogue, we can keep it up. But if it’s late, and we’re watching something with explosions or other loud sounds, we can lower just the bass. My Wife also likes that she can listen to Spotify through it, and get the full sound that many of her portable speakers can’t offer. It’s Sony. I guess I shouldn’t be THAT surprised about the quality. But I have had name brands disappoint me in the past. Even for setups in this same price range. But Sony got it right. I’ve never used a soundbar plus matching sub that has provided the same quality of sound as this set. And I won’t need to try other soundbars for our master bedroom, since our journey looking for one stops here. This is what we want.If you’re shopping around for a quality soundbar, try this one. Don’t like it? Send it back. Amazon gives you 30 days to return it for a refund. So you’re not risking a dime, if you get it and don’t like it. But you won’t know if you like it, until you’ve actually got it in your home. So just order it today. Add it to your shopping cart, check out, you’ll have it in your home in a couple days. Then you don’t have to rely on other people’s reviews. You can judge it for yourself, that’s the real test. But I think you’ll be very surprised at the quality, once you get it and try it out. But you can’t test it out, unless you order it. So order yours today, no point in putting it off. Might be the best investment you’ve made in your home sound systems in a very long time.

We are very amazed with this sony soundbar and subwoofer. We love that nice crisp surround sound. That clearly you hear the the dialogue. We have a soundbar before, and we ended up not using it. It was a waste of money. Doesn’t do anything but makes your volume up and has delay in dialogue.Thankful Enough have a chance to get this one. Was never disappoint us.It has a big speaker unit. It includes the remote control where you can conveniently adjust the settings.like bass and volume. Or can adjust the sound settings. It also comes with optic cable. The soundbar deliver the great clarity and dolby audio and s-force pro front surround.Very worth it indeed!!!💕

I am very pleased with this sound bar. Sony is usually a safe bet. It looks very sleek and I really like that the display is behind the mesh, so you can’t see it when it’s not on. The sound quality is a huge step up from TV speakers. The bass is low and booming, and sounds great. It is easy to install and I really like that it has bluetooth connectivity. I can use it with my phone if I want which is handy. The only complaint I have is that I can’t use my Amazon Firestick remote to adjust the volume, but it’s not a big enough nuisance to outweigh the positives. Definitely a good purchase.

Review for : Sony HT-S400 2.1ch Soundbar with Powerful Wireless subwoofer, S-Force PRO Front Surround Sound, and Dolby DigitalI’m a huge fan of Sony since the 1990s. I’ve used primarily Sony TVs, Sony VCR ($500 in 1991), Sony DVD players, Sony Blueray, Sony Walkman. But for speakers, I almost never pick Sony. I pick Cerwin Vega or Polk. I also got a new Samsung 4k TV after having Sony for 20 years.Pros=But this is a reasonably priced combo for both a sub and a soundbar in my opinion.=Remote is way better than Samsung and I prefer Sony remotes=uses recycled plastic I guess=very cool built-in display into the speaker. Never seen that before.=wireless attachment. That’s really key here. I’ve been struggling with putting wires around the edge of my living room for years.=You can easily hide the sub in your room with wireless.=Works with Google home-really great sound from the soundbar itself=If you have a Sony BRAVIA TVs supporting Bluetooth A2DP, then you can combine more easily. Chances of that are slim though.Cons=not as much bass as a much larger better polk or other brand sub=need your own hdmi cables

I connect the soundbar and subwoofer to my tv with arc/earc hdmi, and the installation is easy. Only three cables involved: 1) ac cable of the soundbar, 2) ac cable of the subwoofer, and 3) arc hdmi cable connecting the soundbar and the tv. There are also optical cable included but I did not use it.

Subwoofer was paired out of the box so no fiddling was required. Easy to set up and sounds great for the price range (you get what you pay for). It doesn’t seem to be expandable to full surround with rear speakers – I see nothing on the website saying you can or on the listing so keep that in mind if you think you might want to expand later.
