Tips for Longterm Use

After each use, adjust the torque to the lowest setting prior to storage. This will relive the tension from the internal mechanisms and ensure maximum accuracy over time. Leaving the FAT Wrench adjusted at a high torque setting for extended periods of time may damage the internal mechanisms, resulting in inaccurate torque adjustments. Adjusting the FAT Wrench beyond the torque wrench setting of 65 in-lbs may damage the internal mechanisms, also resulting in inaccurate torque adjustments.

Very nice tool and good quality. An issue I did have quickly was how to adjust it correctly for the proper torque setting. The red adjuster tab is much larger that the tic mark you are aiming for. Others mentioned the same issue, and the directions are vague for this. I contacted the company and was told to have the tic mark exactly in the middle of the red line for proper torque. I should be fine now….and just passing the info along.

So I was very tempted to purchase one of those cheap torque wrenches that doesn’t come with a torque certificate but glad I came to my senses and purchased this Wheeler Torque wrench. It’s very easy to use and read. It also comes in a very nice sturdy case, with included bits. I used it to mount 2 scopes and some minor additions to my AR’s. Also the instructions are easy to follow, make sure to return it to zero setting for storage.

What a great product and a bargain to boot. This nifty torque screwdriver is priced lower than some other similar products, but I don’t see how they could be any better. This is easy to set up and takes the guesswork out of getting just the right torque on screws, especially for gunsmithing work. Word of caution though. I’ve seen several YouTube videos on this product that demonstrates that you tighten a screw until you hear a click, back off in the opposite direction and torque it twice more. The Fat Wrench instructions clearly state that this is not a ratcheting tool and to only use clockwise turns. So you hear the first click, continue to turn clockwise until you hear two more clicks for proper torquing of screws. Also, make sure to untension it before storing it away.

This has become a standard for smiths it seems. Easy to use and works every time. Love mine. Couldn’t imagine doing things without this. What I can’t imagine is, there are still gunsmiths out there that don’t use this. TRUST ME! Really, there ARE top name gunsmiths out there NOT USING THIS, and relying on the old “goodntite” method, WHICH IS CRAP! I’ve gotten MANY firearms back from “reputable” gunsmiths out there that I noticed each fastener was of a different torque, telling me they hand tightened it, which is bullcrap when you’re paying upwards of a 150 dollar an hour. Do yourself a favor and do your own work; this tool helps that out greatly.

I am very impressed by this torque wrench. I have to say at first impression, by just viewing the description of this merchandise, I thought it would be a simple torque wrench with cheap quality material that is at no competition to the other gun torque wrenches, that are priced higher than this one. I stand corrected. This torque wrench is heavier than I expected, and the precision of the adjustment of torque is very defined. The break is clean when the specified torque is reached. The10 bits that this torque wrench comes with is well machined and even comes stamped with the part number so that you know what part number just in case you need to purchase another. The powerful neodymium earth magnet in the bit reciever ensures that the changeable bit stays in place. This is the only torque wrench that I have found that ranges from 10 in/lb up to 65 in/lb. The graduated in/lb scale is defined in intervals of 5 in/lb and are marked with numbers of 10 through 60 in/lb., making it easy to adjust to the desired torque. At the adjusting end of the torque wrench, there is even an image of how to operate and adjust the torque. The holding case that it comes with is a plus. The plastic interior is molded to specificaly hold your torque wrench and the 10 bits. You also have a place to put a mini leveler, which I think is included in an upgraded version of this tool. Over all,the cover of the case is actually hinged and will not break with continuous open/close use as compared to the plastic hinges that cheap cases are made of. Now that I have this handy torque wrench, I can redo all my rifle scopes and properly align and torque it to recommended specs. Not only for screws, I can also torque all nut and bolts and be assured to not strip any threads again. I am glad that I purchased this torque wrench. Not only did I get this wrench at an awesome price, it is also a good quality torque wrench for all of your gunsmithing and hobby tool kit collection.

The Wheeler Torque Wrench arrived today, and I used it to mount my Leupold VX-2 to my Ruger Mini-14 Target, with RM Ruger #1 & 77/22 1-in Medium Ext Rings. I read quite a few reviews, and was a little concerned about how it would perform, but it worked perfectly. I mention the exact rings, because one of the ‘star’ bits supplied fit perfect for the top 4 ring mount screws. I was able to dial it to 28 in-lbs for these particular scope rings, as well as 45 in-lbs for the screws that mount it to the rifle. Super easy to use, clear instructions, calibration info, and it comes with a hard case with slots for all the bits. Worst case scenario, is you will need to hit up Harbor Freight, Autozone, Sears, etc to pick up a small bit set. It mounted my rifle perfectly, and I’m more confident knowing that the correct amount of tq has been applied to each screw. I would definitely recommend.

I bought this wrench to replace my digital fat wrench that stopped working a few weeks ago. I must say I like this non- digital wrench more than my old digital wrench. Setting the torque is easy. I can’t talk about the accuracy because I have no way to verify. I have to trust the paper-work that came with the wrench and believe the accuracy chart provided. The torque settings are easy to set (with my glasses on) and the knob to set the torque is relatively easy to adjust. I really like this wrench because it helps me from stripping out screws and damaging a scope by appling too much torque on the scope tube when installing. Let’s not forgetthat if you under- torque, your scope will come lose after firing a few rounds. I would recommend this product to a friend. I really don’t think you can go wrong if you purchase this product.

I don’t often say I “love” a Chinese made tool due to quality issues most have. This is a torque driver rather than a wrench and comes with an assortment of bits; most of which are not the best match for the Mosin (Russian), SKS (Chinese), and AK-47 (Russian) but I do have a large set of gunsmithing type bits that interchange just fine. I don’t blame Wheeler for this but rather loose manufacturing tolerances and practices during the war. You’ll find them in the Brownell’s catalog. Came with a molded plastic case that holds everything in place firmly. What surprised me was a test certification slip included in the box. I’ve added pix of the manual to help explain things. My unit gets somewhat harder to turn as setting increases so I keep anything slippery away from it. I’ve found a pair of thin nitrile gloves helps me get a good grip with my fat hands and fingers. Compared to a calibrated inch-pound torque wrench, the device was well within +/- 1% of the actual reading. Mark it down, I’m bragging on a Chinese made tool.

If this is your first use of a torque wrench assembling or reassembling a firearm or firearm accessory, even, if you have, as I did for years, guess at it and think you were about right, think again. Using this quality torque wrench is educate you that your touchy-fee-lee system is not quite as accurate as you thought it was. In yesteryear, touchy-fee-lee was adequate. With the precision firearms and accessories of today, it is just not acceptable. For maximum performance out of your firearm, everything needs dead on the money and accurately torquing the screws and nuts is very important. Try the product, you just may join me in being enlightened about the benefits of tightening firearm screws to the proper torque with a quality and accurate torque wrench. Dime-store products simply will not do, when accuracy is of vital importance for enhancing maximum performance.

Read all the 4-5 star reviews. I agree with them. I bought this for one purpose and one purpose only, to mount my scope on my Saint AR-15 using Larue QD LT104 scope rings. You don’t want to screw this up, because that mount costs about half as much as a lot of really good scopes. After laser bore sighting and leveling everything I used the Wheeler to torque the rings according to the Larue specifications. Piece of cake. If you are going to mount your scope yourself, do it right with the proper tools like the Wheeler and a good laser bore sighter, rifle rest or vise, and German level (they are sold on Amazon), or take it to your local gunsmith. Admitted, it comes with a limited set of bits which will probably work on 80-90% of the applications, but it accepts all the others, which you can also buy on Amazon. Yep, made in China. So what. It’s good stuff and it works. Highly recommended.
