See the dog in the picture here? He’s the reason I’m writing this review. Three and a half years ago, we got a Bernese Mountain Dog. I was warned that these are heavily shedding dogs. I had no idea how bad the shedding really was. They shed A LOT. An unbelievable amount.. It was then that my search for a fantastic vacuum cleaner began. My husband did a lot of research on vacuums and, not wanting to spend $500+ on a Dyson, he bought a Hoover. I have hated–HATED– that vacuum with a passion. I avoided using it as much as possible because of it’s weight, it’s difficulty pushing, etc. I resorted to using a hand vac for most of my vacuuming– that’s how much I hated the Hoover. This week, I couldn’t take it any more. I too didn’t want to buy a Dyson–too much money to risk not loving it– so I bought the Shark Navigator. Now, I am in love. It is so light. I can easily carry it up and down the stairs with one hand. It is a dream to use– practically pushes itself unlike the Hoover which was 22+ pounds and so difficult to push. The shark has tremendous suction as well– you can easily hear it sucking up dirt and debris and despite having just vacuumed the day before with the Hoover, it was shocking (and very disgusting) to see how much dirt, and fur, the Shark sucked up in comparison to the Hoover.Yes, I still have to stop and manually de-fur the roller brush frequently. But, I’m hoping that with more frequent use of a true vacuum as opposed to a hand vac, the fur build up will lessen as will the frequent need to de-fur the roller brush. So, I fully recognize that there is no way to fully eliminate the need to manually disimpact the roller brushes and knowing that this is the only “downside” to the vacuum, it’s not fair to judge it on that. Other than that, the Shark has AMAZING suction,is fantastically lightweight, is very easy to remove and clean the dirt chamber, and is nicely versatile. Extremely happy with my Shark– and my Berner :)

I never thought I’d be writing a review on a vacuum cleaner, but in this case after having had Dyson’s for over 15 years this one earns a mention. Don’t let the price or name fool you, this easily out performs the Dysons in many ways. The Dyson(s) this is replacing is the DC07 Animal and DC27 ball vacuum. I have no regrets. My reviews are normally pretty long-winded, but I feel there’s a lot to cover here for a product you hope to only buy once and service you for many years.BuildThe product is fairly well constructed; however, it is not as heavy duty as the dyson. The clips are a little flimsier, and a little smaller. The Dyson is no champion in this department either as it’s entirely plastic and I’ve replaced pieces many times over the years. This seems to be rugged enough in places that matter, and I’m pleased to find the extension tube is made of metal. Parts snap together well and easily, and it seems to require far less effort to reconfigure. Size-wise it’s closer to the ball vacuum, power-wise the larger DC07. The powered floor brush is the same width as the Dyson ball, which is to say not very wide. It does have a window at the top so you can see if something is beginning to wind around the brush before it can cause trouble. Overall the weight and size make it an excellent choice for those with petite builds or senior citizens.I’ll say this right up front though, this is not a particularly good looking vacuum cleaner. It’s decent enough, and certainly that’s not what you buy them for. Some parts are quite handsome, but the general appearance of the tank is industrial at best, and just a bit cluttered over all.ErgonomicsHere is a bit of a mixed bag. Ergonomically the Dyson has obviously had some top flight industrial engineers working on it, as everything is snug, streamline and compact in the ways all the parts fit together. Once you know how to reconfigure the Dyson to extend the hose, it makes sense but does have a bit of a learning curve. The Shark by contrast is simpler in many ways, if a bit fussier. The “Lift-Away” canister allowing it to detach from the base is absolutely brilliant, and makes cleaning things like stairs, blinds, ceiling cobwebs etc. much easier. It’s far lighter than the Dyson, and easier to use. The swivel feature is similar to the ball vacuum, less sexy but works just as well. Basically, this is like having a canister and upright vacuum cleaner in one unit. There are certain aspects that nearly appear to be tacked on, such as the cord holder. The Dysons have this on the back, and it’s quite easy to access and use. Here it’s on the side, and winding the cord really works best only going one direction as the lower clip is tucked in and a bit out of the way. The tool holder as well is not really integrated, rather a small ring with 2 friction holders for the crevice tool and brush that you put onto the upright extension during assembly. Assembly BTW is a very simple and straightforward proposition, and helps you to understand how to reconfigure. Additionally, the red 2 position on/off rocker switch looks like it came right off the parts rack of a radio shack. The handle is well placed, well configured and comfortable to use. The main roller head is easy to tilt and the balance is quite good. Removing the tank is straightforward, and definitely one of the biggest selling points of this machine. I never liked having the hose stretch from the Dysons, which would inevitably fall over. One thing the Shark is definitely lacking is the one hand or one finger type of ergos of the Dyson. For instance, the canister must be released via 2 flip style clips at the bottom vs the pushbutton release of the Dyson. When it comes to cleaning the Shark wins, but when it comes to those extra little amenities, you’ll have to pony up a few extra hundred dollars. However, I believe the Shark does have some advantages beyond aesthetics.FilterThis is one of the highlights of the Shark. The Dysons have a HEPA filter which consists of a little flat filter that rests on a ribbed plate and sits at the base of the canister unit. Comparatively the Shark may seem overly complex with its multi-step filter system in 2 different locations. With the very first use it was obvious how insufficient the Dyson was in this regard. It always smelled like I was vacuuming before. With the Shark, it smells clean. There is nothing going back into the air. One look at the base filter and you know how well it’s working, it was positively filthy. Luckily these filters are made to be cleaned. The base “pre motor” filter consists of a felt filter with a foam filter on top, and then the “post motor” air return filter is a HEPA filter inside of an egg crate style frame. This is the grill you see on the front, and is easily accessed. The pre motor filter is accessed when you remove the canister. For allergy sufferers this is 5-star stuff.Design FlawsI have a couple of issues when comparing to the Dyson. The first being potentially important for allergy sufferers. Typically, the bag-less canisters have a little door at the bottom you open up to empty it. On the Dysons, the release for the door is at the top of the tank. You can lower the tank into a trash receptacle with one hand and pull the little release ring with your index finger, releasing the contents well away from your face and hands. With the Shark, the release tab for the door is at the bottom of the canister opposite the hinge, which means you can’t drop the tank down into the trash can to release it, it needs to be up high enough so you can press the button. This means potential to get your hands dirty, or some of the dust and dirt to miss the can. Normally I’d go outside and do this right into the garbage can – if you do the same just make sure it’s not windy!Additionally, the interior design of the canister has a flaw compared to the competition. Towards the top of the unit there is an inverted tube which comes close to the outside wall similar to the Dyson. However, the Shark has interior braces that trap dog fur. It can be easily dislodged by banging it, but you might not have that option. Again, this means you might be having to deal with potential contamination and sort of nullifies the excellent filtering of the unit.Cleaning/CarpetThe first thing I noticed when I switched it on was how quiet it is! I was positive that something like this would have to be far noisier. It’s most likely that newer models of Dyson are quieter, but I’ve had experience with 4 now and they all sound about the same. A higher pitched whirring sound with the Shark can be heard opposed to the deeper Dyson Roar on the carpet. As far as real cleaning, this positively outperforms the large Dyson. It’s easier to use and maneuver, and pulled far more out of the carpet than the Dyson did. Yuck! I had no idea. We have a medium pile carpet throughout the upstairs, and 2 long haired dogs. It was obvious that this thing was digging down much deeper than the Dyson from the tracks. The motorized brush also has an indicator light on it that lights green when the brush is working, and turns red if there is a blockage or jam. Another nice feature the Shark has is a little ring you can turn to cut down on the suction if it’s becoming too hard to push. One thing worth mentioning could bother some people. On my cut pile carpet the Shark leaves brush marks, think of a rake on sand opposed to just the flat sweep I’m used to with a Dyson. I’m not sure if this really bugs me or not, and it probably varies from carpet to carpet. I don’t have any other similar type to check this on. You can certainly tell in an instant that it has been vacuumed however.Cleaning/Hardwood FloorsThe supplied Dust Away attachment with the detachable pad is a clever little extra that acts like a Swiffer on steroids. It works quite well right up to the wall, as well as sucking up all that dust and grit that manages to make its way in between gaps of the plank style hardwood floors. There is basically an open section in front of the pad to get the big stuff, and behind it is the pad which gets the dust and fine stuff that is usually missed by a vacuum even with a beater bar. You will still need to do the occasional wet mopping as things just get stuck on the floors, but for regular cleaning this is a nice option to have.Cleaning/Pet AttachmentThis is a smaller attachment with a beater bar that is powered by suction. It’s rather cleverly constructed and works well on upholstery or stairs. It’s much smaller than the Dyson Animal attachment, and far more useful. The Dyson was too large to use for pretty much anything I ever found. It’s about 4 ½ inches wide so it’s perfect for chairs and sofas. I was actually sort of surprised at how much it actually got off of the upholstery compared to just a regular brush attachment. This was a pleasant surprise inclusion; I didn’t know it would be in the package.Pros- inexpensive- lightweight- easy to use- swivel base easy to maneuver- incredibly powerful- suction control- fantastic filter system- bag free design- 2 position power switch (motorized brush head on/off)- motorized brush head with blockage/jam indicator light- motorized brush head viewing window- portable lift-away canister for easy cleaning of stairs or hard to access areas- hardwood/tile floor attachment- pet upholstery attachment- 30’ cord- easy cord release- 5 year warrantyCons- questionable aesthetics/ergonomics- fussy design- some materials a little flimsy- no soft brush attachment- dustbin door release at bottom means possible contact with contents- motorized head only 11” wideWow, that’s it. I suppose one more con would be this is not a proven commodity. After a year I’ll check back in, but I would imagine Shark would have another model out by then. I can say in the last few days this little thing has really impressed me. Enough to write a review about a vacuum cleaner, which I never thought I would. But for $180, I honestly thought I was making a mistake. Instead it’s one of the smartest things I’ve done, thanks to the excellent reviews from Amazon customers. In summary, besides the astounding power and cleaning performance of the Shark, there are 2 things I really love about it. The first is the Lift-Away design. I can’t say enough about how cool this is. It’s like having a canister vacuum you can carry around and get cobwebs, stairs etc. with without having to drag something around behind you. The second is the fantastic filter system. While I’m not a huge allergy sufferer, I had no idea how much crap was being blown back in the air with the Dyson. Combine these features with a lightweight, easy to maneuver and hard-sucking product they’ve fulfilled their promise. While ergonomically lacking behind the Dyson, they’ve hit a good balance of features and performance, cutting corners where it would be least noticed and giving the consumer every bit from their hard earned dollar. I was dubious of Shark because of infomercials etc., but now I know they’re not throwing their money away on fancy packaging or industrial design with questionable returns.5 stars, highly recommended.[edit 1/19]I apologize to anybody that asked me in the comments how I still felt about this vacuum. For some reason I haven’t been getting notifications regarding review comments.TBH, our housekeeper and destroyer of all things made short work of this vacuum in about 2 years. For regular people, who do crazy things like maintain their products, (check the pathway when vacuuming up string or large metal objects etc. when they hear terrible screaming and clattering sounds), I would assume this vacuum will give 5 years easy. (I don’t miss her one bit.) She would basically cause any warranty to be voided. Seriously, she destroyed a broom after 3 uses.I’ve moved into a small townhome, and will be back to doing my own cleaning. I have one of the Dysons she destroyed (seen in picture) after some repairs it’s limping along. However, I plan to purchase this very same vacuum again because of its clever design and ease of use.If I had one complaint, the power brush attachment is belt driven, so if you are a ham fisted klutz who tries to use it for things besides upholstery, the belt may come off of its track. I basically hid this tool from the housekeeper after a few weeks of abuse.

I purchased this back in Oct 2015 and have had no major issues with it so far. Not sure if things have changed since I bought this, but mine came with the dust-away floor, crevice tool, dusting brush, and pet power brush attachments. The photos on Amazon show a “Hard Floor Hero” attachment, which is new to me. My hard floor attachment is the dust-away floor attachment that comes with microfiber pads. It’s basically a Swiffer + vacuum in one, which makes it awesome. Initially, I didn’t use the dust-away attachment for my hard floors since it was a pain to hold the portable lift-away component in one hand and use the other hand to do the physical vacuuming. That said, I initially used both a Swiffer and the Shark’s motorized floor brush (bare floor setting) to clean my hard floors, which was double work. I came up with an idea to grab an old backpack and use it to hold the lift-away component so I could have more mobility. To avoid the vacuum from overheating in the backpack, I cut a hole in it so that it could vent out the filtered air. Ok, I have to say this is a very crude and not the prettiest setup, but since doing it, vacuuming hard floors has become 100% more efficient for me. I actually have fun Ghostbustering all the dust and pet hair off the hardwood floors. The dust-away attachment is now my most used attachment since my house is about 70% hard floor (tile and hardwood). My second most used attachment is the motorized floor brush (traditional vacuum) for my carpets. The suction when using the floor brush is really strong. I don’t notice the strong suction so much on my carpeted floors, but on my Ikea floor rugs, it’s super noticeable. In fact, it sucks so hard on the rug that I have to put quite a bit of force to push it through. It’s like getting a good chest workout when working the vacuum over my Ikea floor rugs. I use the other two attachments occasionally. The crevice and dusting brush are pretty useful to pickup my beard trimmings off the bathtub floor (I don’t like washing all that stuff down the drain). Of course the dusting brush is good for other surfaces like window sills, but admittedly, I don’t dust my window sills that often… After adding my crude Ghostbuster accessory, sucking up spider webs from the garage ceiling is practically effortless with the crevice tool. Lastly, I LOVE how this vacuum is bagless. I actually enjoy watching the dust cup fill up with fur, hair, dust, etc… each time I’m done vacuuming. It shows me that the Shark Navigator is doing it’s job keeping my house clean. I didn’t get to enjoy that fun with traditional vacuums with dust bags. The dust cup is also super easy to empty out and has a great design. Kudos to Shark for designing the dust cup so that it can be emptied from either the top or the bottom of it. So far, I’ve only cleaned and rinsed out the foam filter about 3 times. I haven’t cleaned out the felt filter yet (I didn’t realize that it was removable and washable until just recently). Despite that, I haven’t notice a decrease in suction power, but admittedly I don’t vacuum that often (maybe once a month). In the end, I love this vacuum especially after I’m able to carry it on my back.

The gf thought we needed more than a Roomba. (we also have 3 cats so she’s probably right) Skeptical about buying another vacuum, I eventually gave in and bought this thing. Assembly was easy. The fitted joints all feel very sturdy and anything that comes apart/together has some kind of locking/release type mechanism to keep things from falling apart.I have little cons but I’ll name them:-blows really hot air, making vacuuming on a hot day extra miserable in small quarters. (it’s really humid where I live but this is a minor nuisance and worth overlooking, imo)-it’s a bit top-heavy, meaning it has a tendency to topple over when its on the wheels/base. Detached, standing on the canister it is just fine..Day1, I decided to give this a ‘test drive’. 6 hours later, I ended up cleaning the entire place; not just the floor but all the corners — switching attachments was a super breeze. This thing goes around corners and turns with your wrist, it’s a pretty well thought out vacuum. I had no idea they were actually this sophisticated these days but I wouldn’t know; I would normally never clean. That’s right, 6 hours of free labor I never meant to give away, and the weird part is — I ENJOYED it. The canister really made you feel like you were winning, as you watch it fill up.And suction the power? We had a cat that passed away last winter, I am pretty sure if I kept vacuuming we would’ve brought her soul back from the afterlife. Really though, it cleaned the carpet and gave it a whole new feeling of traction I had completely forgotten about. I had trusted the last 2 years to the occasionally-trying-to-commit-robocide-by-wandering-onto-the-balcony Roomba and for the $300 I spent on the iRobot, I should’ve gotten this Shark the first time around.Did I mention aesthetics? This comes in unofficial, coincidental Imperial Storm Trooper white. Half the fun is assembling different vacuum assault configurations and doing away with all the Rebel Scum under the couch. Seriously, get this thing. It’s a blast you weren’t expecting, an ambush of fun in an otherwise boring choreland, and you may end up living more cleanly!I secretly can’t wait to use this thing again…

This is the second Shark, the exact same vacuum, I have bought. The suction on this vacuum is the best‼️ And the vacuum is so easy to because of its ease of mobility❗️I also have Rainbow canister & Electrolux canister and upright model vacuums. But my Shark is my favorite because it’s so easy to use and no dust escape the canister, it’s trapped. Yet it’s so easy to remove that canister and get the dust and pet hair emptied out to start next time with a clean vacuum. I started carrying my Shark to my parents to clean for them. They have a built in vacuum system in their home, but the Shark was so much more powerful in suction and mobility. They loved the job it did and Dad wanted to buy one. I just left my original vacuum there and went online and had a brand new Shark on my doorstep in just a few days. Always clean your filters and I purchased extra filters so we can just change them out. The canister is not the easiest to clean, but still the machines power makes it worth the effort‼️ I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SHARK VACCUM❗️❤️

This is the third vacuum I’ve tried buying form Amazon, the other two where canister type and where awkward, didn’t pick up anything, constantly tipped over, killed my back, and got sent back. This came today, and I was blown away. I used an old dirt devil first before using the Shark, just to see what would happen on my area rugs, and WOW!!!! The amount of dirt, dust, pet hair this thing picked up was just outstanding.Pros for me,It’s light weight, easy to assemble (no tools). It has amazing power, even more than my brand new Oreck years ago had before it died. I love the how easy it is to clean, change from upright to canister. The power this thing has shocked me. I turned it on with the power head going, and it just glided across my area rugs, no pushing at all, and pulling it back was a snap. I literally had to dump the canister after cleaning 4 four area rugs that I had just vacuumed with my dirt devil. Not because the trap is small, but because that is how well this Shark sucked!!! Thought no way could this work that well on my hard wood floors!!! I was wrong. Turned off the power bush, and what normally would get thrown around (litter, bird food, etc.) this thing would just suck it up like nothing I’ve ever seen. Even picked up a rug by the sliding glass door where we track in most of our dirt, dumped it on the hard wood and ran this vacuum over it, picked up everything. Never threw a piece. I love the long cord, can pretty much do the whole house and only change the plugs to two different outlets. The swivel head is nice too. It’s also so easy to change between different tools. Haven’t tested the pet hair brush yet, but think it will be really good too.Cons for me at least,These are nit picky, but I’m giving an honest review. There should be a longer hose attachment, even after detaching the head to use it as a canister, I’ll need a chair to reach high areas. One more piece would have been welcome. Wish there would have be a light on the head too. None of that bothers me so much that the pure suction didn’t deserve 5 starts. All in all, just for the suction, pure power, and having tried several vacuums over the years, this is by far the most powerful light weight, and easy to maneuver one. I was shocked to be honest. I’d buy it again.

I had seen the good reviews about this vacuum and finally ordered it when we moved: our new house had a mix of thick carpet, linoleum, and wood floors and my old vacuum wasn’t going to cut it.It’s awesome. It pulls the dirt out of next week, I swear to you. Almost every use we had to empty the container which made me feel full of regret for not ordering it sooner, because it was clearly having to do the work of my old vacuum on our area rugs. It transitions between the floor types with a quick click, and the wand and attachments are well stored and quickly accessible to make transitioning from floors to ceilings quick (when you find that giant cobweb and go OMG and need the wand like NOW)Best of all – it’s really pretty quiet! It seriously feels like a toy since it’s such a fun little hard worker. Yes, some things could be better. The cord wrap is a bit awkward. The hook that keeps the cord off the ground is too wide and the cord falls out. But those are minor pains compared to how awesome this vacuum is. One warning: the first time I tried to remove the canister to empty it I did manage to empty the canister all over the floor. Whoops! Good thing my awesome vacuum could clean it all up again!-1 star to me for waiting to order this vacuum!

***Important!! I bought this vacuum back in August 2019, so I’ve had it for over 17 months now. I have bad allergies, along with 4 dogs and too many cats lol. Needless to say, a good vaccum is essential, so for the last 12 plus years I’ve opted to spend $600 on vacuums, that go by the name Dyson. And they’ve outperformed any previous vacuums I’ve had. I decided to get this Shark, simply to have an extra vaccum that was lighter weight and closer to the ground to get under my bed. Well I’ve just realized that I can’t remember the last time I’ve used my dyson! I’ve been using the shark alone for the past year, and it’s amazing to me that I’ve found a vaccum that costs less than $200 that I prefer over a $600 vaccum.I’ve seen comments about smell, but any true hepa filter that is doing what it should will have this smell if not cleaned every time. My dyson did as well. Just means it’s getting the job done. Extracting it from your household…. that’s a good thing! If this review was helpful, please check yes below!!!!

The media could not be loaded. I purchased this Shark vacuum after having owned two Dysons over the past eight years. I swore by Dyson for years an even poo-pooed my own mother when she told me how much better Shark vacuums were. I continued this vacuum snobbery until she purchased one for my grandmother. I have been helping my grandmother by cleaning her house every week and I finally had a chance to use a Shark. My mother and grandmother both have the Rotator professional and I have to say I was very impressed by how well it cleaned my grandmother’s berber carpets. I still wasn’t convinced Sharks were better. It wasn’t until I was vacuuming a living room rug with my Dyson DC 34 Animal that I decided to give the Shark a try. You see I ran the Dyson over that rug again and again and I could still see hair on the black parts of the rug. So I though I would bring my grandmother’s Shark over to my home (she lives across the street) and see if Sharks were indeed all I had heard about. I plugged her Shark in and ran it over the same rug. I was amazed and disappointed that it picked up every single piece of kitty hair on that rug. That rug actually looked clean. I say disappointed because now I had to admit to my mother that she was right, lol. Now in case you think I wasn’t cleaning the filters and doing the required maintenance on my Dyson you are wrong. A vacuum that costs that much you make sure you take care of. Anyway I was so impressed that I purchased a Shark for myself. I purchased the Navigator Professional and I absolutely love it. It pulls up cat hair like a dream. The only complaint I could ever have about this vacuum is that the vacuum head is not as wide as on my Dyson but the good news is that I love to vacuum so this is not a huge problem. Also for some reason I did not get a dusting brush in the box with my new vacuum. Long story, short I am a believer and I did admit to my mother that she was right as much as it pained me to do so. Mother always knows best I guess. If you find my review useful please let me know and if you have any questions or comments, feel free to post them below and I will answer them as quickly as possible. Thank you for checking out my review. :)

I decided it was time for a new vacuum cleaner after the pile-height adjustment stopped working on my old one. I have a dog and four cats, so I vacuum frequently. At certain times of the year, my 50 lb dog becomes a shedding machine, which means I vacuum even more often. I wanted something light, maneuverable, yet powerful. The vacuum arrived and assembly was pretty self-explanatory. I quickly had it together and gave it a test run in the one room in the house with carpet. The den isn’t a huge room, but it’s everyone’s favorite room thanks to the sliding doors. Shark isn’t kidding when they say this thing is powerful! I swear I’m not a horrible housekeeper, but I wound up emptying the bin twice before I even left the den. This vacuum picked up stuff my old one didn’t and didn’t lose suction at all.It took a bit of trial and error to use the pet powered attachment on my chairs, but once I did I was impressed with the amount of pet hair it was able to get off! From there, I ran it over the hardwood floors through the rest of the house. It picked up everything like a dream. With just a flick of the switch to turn the brush off and easing the suction using the ring of the handle, I made a pretty seamless transition from my hardwood floor to an extremely plush shag rug and back again. And then the ultimate test: cleaning up around the litter boxes. My old vacuum would sandblast my legs with kitty litter no matter if I pushed or pulled the vacuum over the litter. Not so with this one. It sucked the litter up without the sting of blowback and without sending up a cloud of dust. This has become one of my essential pieces of equipment!!
