    Hello Im Chan

My cat Ray absolutely LOVES this food. He finishes it everytime compared to other cat food. I like to consider him a cat food connoisseur because he loves loves loves food.As soon as he sees me walk in with the bag or unbox it, he bumps his head against it. If he’s hiding away or sleep in the morning, as soon as I scoop the food from his food storage he comes sprinting, nearly about to crash into the couch and waits by his food bowl for his Purina. He used to be very skinny as a kitten so seeing him eat this and maintain a healthy weight is something that brings me joy. I like that this is a mix of real meat pieces and dry food so I know my cat is getting a nice dose of protein and meat. I recommend to any kitty/adult cat.

I was hesitant to buy this product due to some of the reviews about the stench and possible danger of this, however, I noticed that when Purina started adding the chewy bites that it smelled even when it was store bought so I took my chances. I am very pleased. Yes, it stinks a bit but nothing different from the store bought version. I love being able to have this delivered fast and it’s cheaper, even if it’s only by $5-8, than the store. I will be buying it again from Amazon, no doubt! I would recommend it to anyone. As far as a review of the food itself, I cannot say this is necessarily the healthiest cat food available. However, for my cat it is the only one he tolerates without violent, constant vomiting so my vet has recommend I stick with it. I am pleased that Purina seems to be trying to keep up with the demands of pet owners to include more real meat, less filler.

Pictured: My cat, Ghost, having an existential crisis. My cat loves this food and he’s a very picky eater. I tried to feed him a “gormet” brand of food for cats only made by a celebrity chef and his cat, but my cat wouldn’t touch the stuff. Nope, he’d rather eat dry food from bag instead of expensive wet food. Well, I suppose I should thank him because a huge bag of this food is a lot less expensive than that $2 a pouch wet food. Also, if you didn’t know, feeding a cat dry food makes their poop smell MUCH LESS than when they eat wet food. And that’s my tip for the day.

I don’t know which is correct to give, a 5 star review or a 1 star one. I chose 5 star because I buy this kibble all the time through Amazon and my cats love it. But, I recently purchased it and it stunk to high heaven, like something was terribly wrong with it! I called Purina and they took information from the bag to try and determine the source, use-by date etc. I also contacted Amazon and they told me that the stinky bag I received was provided through Amazon directly, not another party, and has since been removed. The bags now available for sale, as of the date of me writing this at least, are all from 3rd party sources and should be okay. So, if you choose to buy it, you should be getting a quality bag and not have to worry about the stinky stuff. Amazon also reimbursed me for the purchase. Unfortunately I had poured the whole 16 lb. bag into my big storage container which had other good kibble in it as well. Once I got the whiff, I ended up disposing of all the kibble in the container, including the good stuff, and thoroughly cleaning the container to be safe. I don’t know what was wrong with the stinky kibble but I sure wasn’t going to let my cats taste a morsel of it!

You have heard of cats being finicky right? Well, we have the king of finicky in our home. We tried numerous dry cat foods with every last one of them being donated to our local animal shelter. Really, we bought bag after bag. Same with wet cat food. He would eat 1/4 of a new can like it was his last meal and refuse it the next day. Same with treats. My goodness, he put his nose up after buying oddles of bags of treats! The only wet food he will eat is real tuna. Anything made for cats is garbage for our kitty boy. Treats? Finally found a winner…and dry food? Well, we hit the kitty lottery with Purina One Tender Selects Salmon. He LOVES the stuff, but only salmon. We are going on year three of him eating this daily and I could not love my kitty boy anymore (Mr. Finicky or not). :-))

This is so far the ONLY kibble all four of my cats will eat, and that none of them throw up from, besides blue buffalo sensetive stomach (which by itself they’ll eat but don’t seem overly jazzed about). For years I’ve been trying to find a brand or mix of to keep all my fur kids happy and healthy. This came as a sample bag with our newest fur baby. All my cats LOVE this food. I mix it with their other kibble and by mid day, their bowls are empty. I was skeptical as I’d tried many other expensive foods, specialty foods and organic: no this or that, good for digestion, better for indoor cats, better tasting (I never tried any of it personally) etc. etc. Most would start off fine but they’d eventually stop eating it or one would start to throw it up. I switched it over gradually and they’re at a full blend of the kibbles after two months. The smaller bag from Petsmart is almist the same price, so for a bag this big at $4 more, it’s a huge plus to the fact they’re healthy, happy, have shiny coats, are tossing up less fur balls, are even more active and are not getting sick or having digestion issues. It’s a thing I’d near given hope of happening with four very different cat personalities and likes.

I have used this food for years with my cats. It was always great for 3. Last year we adopted a kitten. We had her on a different food initially–wet Fancy Feast kitten and dry Purina kitten chow. Once we were ready to start her on non-kitten food, we naturally switched her to the same Purina One we’d used for years with the others. Suddenly she had explosive, uncontrollable diarrhea. We did not relate it to the food because we’d never had any issues with it with several different cats, and because we had just put out new cat toys with a different cat nip than we normally used, so we actually thought that was the cause initially… But then it continued for 4 months. We went to numerous vets and paid tons of money to have so many tests done. Ultimately no one could find anything wrong to her, but the situation continued to worsen to the point that she was starting to become dehydrated and started have blood in her (always loose) stool. Every single day she would uncontrollably poop around our house. Finally a vet gave us a low dose antibiotic, just in case, and some terribly expensive digestive something-or-other food. Within days her stools were back to normal (however she still wasn’t using the litter box, likely due to the trauma and stress she’d been having with bowel movements lately). We kept her on both until they were fully used, as instructed, and had no problems. She started going at least near the litter box. Then we switched her back to the regular food. Right back to bloody diarrhea all over the house. Last week I switched her to Friskies, and again her bowels are normal. Also, I looked up my order histories and was able to pinpoint the start of her diarrhea to within a week of when we started her on the Purina One initially.I’m sad to say that we will no longer be using this food. We have almost a full 16 lb bag left, but I don’t want to give it to our other cats and risk the 1 getting into it. I’m hoping I can donate it to a shelter.I realize that this is not going to happen to every cat. As I said, we successfully used it for others for years. I still like this food, but our family can no longer use it. Think of it as a kid with a peanut allergy–easier not to have peanut butter at all and just buy almond butter instead for everyone. However I do not think peanut butter, or Purina One, is bad, just can’t work for us anymore. So I still give it 5 stars. The only reason I’m sharing this is just in case it could help anyone with a similar issue.

Yes, poop. We have 4 cats, one we have had for forever and a day. Our oldest cat could clear the Aerium in a single movement. No matter what boxcabinetenclosed self cleaning containement unit robots, litter or additives or even whole room freshners, when he went you wished for Anosmia. Then we got 3 more. Needless to say, they didn’t smell that bad but it was far from pleasant. Finally, my wife went online and looked up what we should do, it was FOOD. There are people who cook each meal for their cats and then there is reality. For dry food, this was rated 3 of 10. The first two had cons, like ingredients known to cause allergies in cats etc. This one’s (salmon only not any other type of meat ONLY salmon) had only one con which was smell. Knowing it could not be worse than what we were suffering through, we gave it a shot. We opened the bag, took a whiff and it smelled like normal dry cat food. So we fed our cats. They currently were on Purina so the change did not disrupt their digestive tracts and the difference was almost instant. Granted it still smells like poop but the smell is contained where it is suppose to be and you do not need a gas mask to change the litter. We would not be even able to tell he’s going if it wasn’t for his song he songs while he’s going. This stuff is amazing and priced at a normal price. If your cat is stinking you out of house and home I’m telling you try a bag (only the salmon flavor, the others will not work) you will never look back.

I’ve taken over feeding responsibilities for a beautiful feral cat in the park, and I can’t bear the thought of feeding her garbage junk food, even if it is cheaper. I settled on Purina One, because it is a step up from garbage grocery store foods, and is still palatable enough to coax her out of her hiding places. I’ve tried several other brands, such as I and Love and You, Rachel Ray Peak, Nutro, and Royal Canin, and the Purina One ranks roughly equal to Royal Canin and Nutro from my visual observations of the cat, and far above Rachel Ray and I and Love and You.(Don’t worry, I also feed her wet food, and bring her bottled water to drink, AND I’ve seen her catch mice with her exciting patented “fox dive bomb” attack. So she has a well-balanced diet and retains her survival skills—-I’m just taking the edge off the wet and cold San Francisco nights with food assistance…)The Purina One has small kibble–so this might be troublesome if you have cats that do not self-regulate well. In my experience, cats are pretty good at self-regulating, so the ones I know do not tend to overeat. but small kibble is something to keep an eye on if your cat shovels giant mouthfuls down their throat. There are larger beige meaty bits—or I suppose they’re “meaty” in the sense that they are a different texture than hard kibble pellets. They’re sort of spongy in a firm way, and they’re irregularly shaped. These pieces must have more oils to make them delicious, because these are the pieces that get eaten first. The Salmon flavor and the Chicken flavor both seem equally palatable, as I’ve offered both with good results. This is in stark comparison to 2 other types of kibble (Costco and Friskies) being left as offerings occasionally by well-intentioned but clueless people in the park. Costco and Friskies rarely get touched, but the park cat sits patiently and waits for me to show up with my Purina One, wet food, and water so we can have lunch together every day. I pay close attention to her moods, her health, what she eats, which flavors she picks, and how fast she gravitates to them, so after several months, I can safely say that the Purina One is a reliable option. She appears to be in good condition, and her coat is the thickest and densest I have ever seen on a cat. When you brush against her coat, there is no way to part the hairs and see all the way down to her skin–that’s how thick her fur is. So I’ll keep doing what I’m doing, and keep feeding her Purina One.

Persians can be tricky to feed because of their flat faces; they have a hard time grabbing kibbles so it may take a series of trial and error to find a kibble shape they can actually bite/grab/eat. When we brought our kittens home, they refused to eat the food the breeder sent home with them. They refused to eat wet. They refused to eat our 19 year old senior cat’s Purina Urinary diet. Being a veterinary professional, I knew it had to be because they couldn’t grab the kibble shape, so I began studying the bags at a local feed store until I found one with appropriately shaped kibbles. I brought a small bag of this home and they fell face first into that food bowl and didn’t stop for a good twenty minutes. They really seemed to enjoy the meaty chunks, and the kibble shapes were easy for them to grab with their mouths. Our senior cat was so enticed by the food, he also decided he would rather eat this than his urinary diet (which he is only on for prevention, rather than treatment due to his age.) The bags of this at the feed store were really expensive, so I compared a few online retailers and Amazon was cheaper than Chewy since they offered bigger bags with lower price per oz size. We have an auto-subscribe set up for our food to ship, and now all three of our cats are eating it. There was a few day adjustment with our senior cat where his stool really stunk, but now it appears to be ok and is back to normal. Haven’t had any problems with the food having a strong odor or anything like what was reported in other comments. I have all of my animals on Purina diets and recommend Purina to my clients.
