Nole FanNole Fan –
The speakers sound good for their size and money. I was trying to balance form and function. Bigger speakers may sound a bit better, but I didn’t want anything too large on the entertainment center. I actually would have preferred a sound bar for looks, but was worried I would not get the full surround sound without rear speakers. I have wired ceiling speakers for the rear and could not find an acceptable sound bar that used wired rear speakers. I am not disappointed in my purchase.
Brad Jolly –
Excellent speakers. I bought this pair of speakers to be used as surround satellite speakers for my home surround sound. These speakers aren’t huge, but still make a statement. Their sound is amazing and really help make those spaceship fly bys and background explosions stand out. Would definitely recommend these speakers.

Size and sound is outstanding and well built.

I am a huge Polk fan. I have bought nothing but Polk speakers since I first hear them in the mid 1980’s. Everytime I compare them to other speakers, I always find the Polk’s to sound better. recently, I bought a small Yamaha mini stereo system for my office. It came with speakers that sounded ok, but nothing special. I looked for a pair of small Polk’s to replace them. The only ones I could find where the S15 bookshelf speakers, but they were to large as my stereo fits in a small bookshelf and S15 were just to large for that space. So I bought a pair of Micca MB42X’s that fit the space I had and they sounded really good (you can see my reveiw on Amazon). They were a big improvement over the stock speakers. A month later I saw an ad for the Polk S10’s. These looked just like what I was looking for in the first place. They were small had the same drivers 4″ woofer and dome tweeter that the Micca’s had, so I bought them. When I got them the first thing I noticed was that they were smaller than the Micca’s. They were better built and heavier, just a higher quality speaker overall. However, when I hooked them up and listen to them I was disappointed. They just sounded flat and lacked the bass the Micca’s had. So I decided to hook one of the Micca’s to one side and the Polk to the other so I could do a side by side comparison by switching the balance on the stereo back and forth. What I found was that the Polk’s were brighter in the upper mid’s and high’s, but the Micca’s had the bass. What to do, so I kept the Polk’s and pushed them up againt the back of my bookself to give them more bass. It helped, but I’m still not wow’ed by them. The S10’s are marketed as surround speakers and in that role I think they would sound great. So maybe it’s my fault for asking these speakers to preform a role they are not designed for (left and right front speakers). However, these are the first Polk speakers I have heard that didn’t sound better then the competition. Right now I am still using them (hoping they will sound better over time), but I may switch back to the Micca’s. If you are thinking of getting these for surround speakers I woulds say go for it. If you are looking for these as front stereo speakers I would say you can probably find better speakers for that role elsewhere.UPDATE: After listening to these speakers for 8 hours a day for about a month I wanted to write and update. I don’t know if I have just got used to them or if there was a break-end period that I have reached, but to me they sound better from when I first bought them. I really enjoy listening to them now. The bass is still a little lacking compaired to the Micca’s, but pushing them up against the back of the bookself has definately helped. I also found that playing them at louder volumes makes them sound better. I am very happy with them now and would recommend anybody to buy them either as surround or front speakers. I am upgrading my reveiw to 5 stars because of this.
DC Mike –
I am wildly satisfied. I had been using the Energy Take Classic 5.1 with a 12″ Yamaha sub for the past 5 years. One of my speakers took a spill from its stand and the other took a broom to the face. It was time to get new surrounds. I picked up two pairs of the Polk S10s and they sound AMAZING. The Energys were OK but these are a major upgrade, for sure. My living room is a fairly open 20×30 room with 25ft ceiling, so its a fairly large space to fill and these have no problem. The sound is crisp and they definitely light up the room.A solid buy. I don’t give 5 stars often, but I have to give ’em here.

These were purchased as rear surround speakers for a 5.1 system made of ELAC B5.2 series speakers and an SVS 12″ sub woofer. The ELAC speakers are great but I wanted smaller and more efficient speakers than ELAC carries for my rear surrounds. Good quality and affordable rear surround speakers are still pretty difficult to find, especially if you don’t want your rear speakers to take up a lot of space or stick out too much. After much searching I decided to try these based upon the great reviews, small size, great looks and mostly good experiences with Polk speakers. I am powering these remotely with a small and cheap wireless 50 watt amp.Pros: The speakers sound good and look very high quality, I especially like the look with the grills off. The high frequency sound is much better and easier to listen to than earlier Polk speakers which often tended to be shrill and even painful at times. The grills are magnetic which is a really nice touch.Cons: The low frequency effects and bass sounds are somewhat lacking which is to be expected from any small speaker with a 4″ inch driver.Edit after a month of use- I almost returned these as the sound seemed very thin compared to the rest of my speakers. After about 60 hours of use the sound has improved greatly and they sound much more full now, not as tight and restricted as they did when new. Now I feel that the Polk S10’s are very suitable for rear surrounds and do an absolutely great job of filling that role in my system. Unlike other small speakers I have owned I don’t feel that I am missing out on any of the surround sound details at all. As near field speakers in a den or computer set up they would sound good but a sub woofer would be very beneficial for filling in the missing lower frequency sounds.

I am using these as front speakers in a 5.1 setup. They are connected to a Sony STR DN1080 receiver and paired with a Polk S35 center, T15 surround, and an older Sony powered sub. I had some size constraints for the front speakers and these were a perfect fit. The sound produced by the ES10 is quite amazing considering the small size. Mids and highs are crystal clear and they work well with the S35 center. These produce almost no bass so an added sub will be needed to fill out the lower end. Extremely satisfied with another great Polk product. I would recommend.

Amazing set of speakers for little money. I am using these as fronts in a 12X15 bedroom, and they perform as well as bigger bookshelf size speakers. The sound quality and build quality of these are right up on par with those in the $400.00 price range. Even though these would make amazing rear surrounds, don’t be fooled. In smaller rooms/areas, they will surprise you being used as front drivers. Polk really hit the nail on the head with these little quality mini monsters. HIGHLY recommended.

I bought these speakers along with the ES20 bookshelf loudspeakers and the ES30 center channel to build up an existing surround system. I thought these would be ideal as building blocks for future system upgrades since they’re very versatile. They can be used as surrounds in a 5.1, surround and sides in a 7.1 system, or as height speakers in an ATMOS configuration. They look beautiful and produce some amazing sound from such small bookshelf speakers. Since I’m living in an apartment and don’t want to be a total ass, I don’t think I’ve pushed them as hard as they can cleanly handle. Movies and video games sound great, and music is rich and fully balanced with the other Polk Elite speakers. From jazz and classical to drum & bass and reggae, the speakers are some of the best I’ve ever heard. I’ve heard louder systems before, just not loud and exceptionally clean sounding ones. These speakers work well in the supporting role of surround speakers, but they could easily stand alone in a small bedroom or office system as the primary speakers. If there’s enough power to drive them then they will respond sonically. The Power Port bass design on the speakers is noteworthy and does seem to enhance the bass response and balance within the music without overpowering the mix. If I had one complaint, and it’s probably not a reasonable one in this price range, it would be the fake wood finish. The MDF they used sounds good, but a real natural wood finish would just take these over the top from a 9.5 to a 10. I love these speakers.
