Introducing Lysol Laundry Sanitizer

When it comes to certain laundry loads such as children’s clothes or sportswear, you want your detergent to eliminate bacteria that can cause illnesses and create lingering bad smells. But detergents alone don’t actually kill all bacteria. Introducing Lysol Laundry Sanitizer, a bleach-free additive specially designed to kill 99.9%* of bacteria left behind while remaining gentle on most fabrics.

*When used as directed – EPA registration number 777-128, approval date 02/09/2016

When are Bacteria Encountered?

Our clothes are in constant contact with bacteria throughout our day-to-day activities, for example through contact with contaminated surfaces, people and our own bodies. Bacteria can also spread from one fabric to another in the laundry basket, from the washing-machine drum to the next load, and even from our hands when handling wet clothes which have just been washed.

How Do Bacteria Cause Odors?

Sweat itself does not have an odor, but when we sweat the bacteria living on our skin break down the sweat molecules causing unpleasant smells. We can mask these odors with fabric conditioners, but when the fragrancing technology of such products wears off, the bacteria can still remain and continue to produce bacterial malodors. To combat these lingering smells, odors must be eliminated at the source by killing the odor-causing bacteria.

Is Washing Alone Not Enough?

Some bacteria from food, the body or other sources can survive a wash cycle. As well as when you wash clothes like delicates at lower temperatures, bacteria & other germs can survive and transfer between garments in wash. Potential infection risk with pathogenic bacteria include athlete’s foot, fungal nail. You can continue washing at low temperatures and still be assured that 99.9%* of bacteria are eliminated by simply adding Lysol Laundry Sanitizer.

Finally!!!! Something that gets rid of laundry odors. We have a farm with pigs. Yes pigs. And a sweaty teenager. And an incontinent old dog. You get the picture. I’ve read articles, online reviews and advice from a moms group. They all mentioned this. I don’t like strong perfume odors. This is fresh but not overpowering and it works! I also use Charlie’s soap and pretreat with Espro sports cleaner. This is my trifecta for clean fresh laundry.

Dear god, please don’t ever stop making this liquid nectar from the heavens! This is the best invention for laundry since Gain Pods! I’m so happy about this! It makes washing my Dogs beds, blankets, toys, towels, etc. (all three of them) every week so much easier! I looooove it!If you have kids, pets, a weakened immune system or just enjoy having incredibly clean towels, sheets, or clothes…this stuff is the stuff to do it!

Okay, so I am smell sensitive to many chemical smells. To the verge of being sick. Virtually every detergent, fabric softener, bleach, etc., smell sets me off. So, I see a commercial on tv for this product not too long ago. Was caught up in how much bacteria was left from normal washing and how much was left after you used this product. Figured spray Lysol doesn’t smell too bad and I can tolerate it in general (depending upon the scent), but wonder how I would react if my clothes were washed in that smell. Could I tolerate it?Well, I have to say that even though this has a somewhat chemical smell when you sniff the liquid in the bottle, the smell of your clothing, etc., just smells fresh. It doesn’t seem to have a chemical smell at all. Just a clean breeze sort of smell. Makes me think of the ocean. I can easily tolerate it and my clothes smell really good. I like this so much I bought tons of it recently. We even used a sharpie on our bottles: his, hers, and ours. Yep, we each do our laundry duty.Anyhow, I can’t vouch for the bacteria thing because it’s not the sort of thing one can actually see. But if you are adverse to chemical smells, as am I, you won’t go wrong with this product because it really smells nice. Side benefit is that the smell of this killed any other smell associated with the detergent with which the clothes, etc., were washed. Lysol rules.

A few additional notes after my initial review. So much debate on using this in the rinse cycle. Soaking clothes in the washer with this product (as a prewash) for 16 minutes is just as effective, if not better, than adding it to the rinse cycle. Perhaps the reason so many people are complaining of getting rashes after using this is due to the fact that it’s not getting fully rinsed out of your laundry. One more thing…..I know there are alot of people out there buying this because of Covid-19. People need to understand the basics. Antibacterial items kill bacteria. ANY KIND OF SOAP kills viruses. The soap breaks down the outer portion of virus (the fat membrane) and the virus falls apart. Google it if you need to see it. I hope this helps. This stuff looks like it will be out of stock for the next year, so if you see this available on here on backorder, buy it before its gone!!!!I’ve been waiting for a disinfecting detergent additive!!! This is the answer to all my germaphobic fears. I work in healthcare and I come in contact with MRSA and all kinds of nasty stuff. I’m always concerned about bringing something home on my scrubs. This is the answer!! It smells nice and even got the odor out of my dog’s bed cover. No other detergent has been able to do that even after using expensive detergent and longer wash cycles. My washer has a soak cycle on it. I add 1-2 capfuls directly on top of the laundry before starting the cycle. My washer adds the water, agitates everything, then sits for 10 minutes. It then agitates and sits again, so my clothes soak for 20 minutes total. Then the regular wash cycle starts and my other detergent and fabric softener gets added in. You could do this soak method with any washer by simply pausing the wash cycle before it begins washing and let your clothes sit for the recommended 16 minutes.I also want to share that the 16 minutes of soak time is absolutely necessary in order to kill off pathogens and bacteria. It’s the same thing at the hospital when we clean off medical equipment….the cleaner has to be on it for 15 minutes before it’s sanitized and safe for use on another patient. That’s hospital policy for things like E. Coli, MRSA, C. Diff, and influenza, so I trust that anything less than 16 minutes isn’t going to work to properly disinfect.Highly, highly recommend this product!!!!!

Do I know if it’s working? No not really. I don’t have a way of testing the bacteria on the clothes, but with a baby in the house and tons of poop on clothes, it’s worth it for me. Hubby brings home all sorts of bacteria on his work clothes as well and this product gives me peace of mind. The smell is pleasant and not overpowering. I read another review that said sweating in clothes that have been treated with this product will cause a skin reaction…not true. Hubby sweats a bunch in his work clothes and has no problems. Even the baby has no skin reactions to this product. Many of the linens in our house do not allow for washing in warm or hot water (which would naturally eliminate more bacteria). This product works wonderfully at eliminating the musty smell and getting a better clean. Examples of these linens: our bathroom towels (weird I know), our mattress protector, the shower curtain, and the memory foam bath mats. For my he washer, I put to caps filled to the bottom line in the fabric softener dispenser and select the fabric softener setting. This automatically does the additional soaking period for the time required and works on all wash cycles in my machine. Overall, the peace of mind this product offers is enough for me to keep buying it.

My search for this product began with this giraffe Geoffrey, who is my 16 month olds best stuffed friend. Geoffrey has been around from the beginning… Although became quite abused during the spit up and teething phase. Those osicones on his head are especially useful for teething toddlers. He is now lovingly referred to as Stinky Geoffrey and boy does he stink. Washing him regularly doesn’t help and we resorted to soaking his head in rubbing alcohol. Finally we saw a commercial for this product and it was the answer we were looking for! I use probably more than I need, but like I said this is one stinky giraffe. I put the product in the fabric softener compartment and it could not get any easier. Comes out smelling fresh and clean! I personally love the smell of this product and will definitely continue to use

To truly disinfect please note this needs a 16 minute soak after the wash cycle. Otherwise you are sending money down the drain. It took me a month to see that.

I LOVE this product! I have NO idea if it’s actually sanitizing my laundry, but if this stuff works? Awesomeness! How many times have you had a nasty load of laundry that you need to bleach, but you can’t? Color safe bleach doesn’t seem to be as hygienic as regular bleach. This fills in that gap. Kids threw up? Add this. Dog poop? Add this. Towels? Underwear? Smelly socks? Yep. Add this. I’m hooked.

Works wonders on my sons offensively smelly socks and workout clothes. In the past, I’ve had to soak the socks and clothes in white vinegar to get rid of the smell but this does the trick. I feel like it’s getting rid of the smell instead of just masking it. It leaves a mild fresh scent but not an artificial smell. I put it in the fabric softener receptacle of my washing machine and it gets added to the rinse cycle. Highly recommend.

I’m a first responder and work 12-48 hour shifts that require lots of contact with patients that are sick and injured, and going in and out of hospitals. I’m a volunteer and live in-house while I’m on duty. Besides my uniform, I also have my own set of sheets that I bring with me. If I get a chance to lay down in my bunk, I do not remove my boots because I could get dispatched at any moment and it takes a lot of precious time to lace up my boots. Of course, this means my sheets are coming into contact with all kinds of germs. My uniform gets sweaty and germy. I bag up my dirty sheets at the end of my shift or wash them at my station.I saw the commercial for this additive and knew I needed to buy it. It smells good and I trust the Lysol brand. It is nice to know my clothing and bedding are getting cleaned beyond what detergent can do on its own considering the variety of germs I come into contact with regularly. I also notice that it deodorizes and prevents sweat damage and stains to my uniform. I also love that I can get a big bottle that sanitizes 90 loads for only $11. Highly recommended.
