Design
Attention to every detail
Great loudspeakers disappear, leaving just the music. LS50 Meta is such a loudspeaker. The incredibly immersive sound means you lose yourself in your favourite music.
Every aspect of LS50 Meta has been considered for acoustic benefits and from a design perspective. The low-diffraction curved front baffle is subtly mirrored by the gently radiused rear panel, where both the port exit and speaker terminals have been elegantly recessed and softened visually.

Braced for actionLS50 Meta’s baffle is engineered from an injection-moulded Dough Moulding Compound (DMC), while inside the cabinet cross bracing and Constrained Layer Damping (CLD) combine to deaden internal vibrations. The result of such meticulous attention to detail is the lowest coloration of any speaker in its class. |
12th generation Uni-Q with MATUsing advanced simulation and analysis tools, our engineers have developed the 12th generation Uni-Q with MAT. This new driver array delivers reduced coloration, less distortion and a sound that is more transparent and life-like than previously possible, all dispersed evenly throughout the room. |
Flexible portUsing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), the port flare and profile of LS50 Meta’s patented off-set port is calculated to delay the onset of turbulence, and the flexible port walls prevent resonances from colouring the midrange. This leads to improved clarity, with exceptional depth and detail. |

Craig Beezley –
Incredible and I haven’t even had time to properly break them in. I absolutely loved my last pair of speakers, Chane’s tower A 5rx-cc and they aren’t even in the same stratosphere as the Metas. The difference in detail, imaging and soundstage are dramatic. Astonishing set of speakers. This is going to be a great ride.

In short, the LS50 Metas are great.I owned the previous generation LS50s for three years now. I went through multiple amps in my quest for perfection (I wouldn’t recommend class D for the LS50s, too bright, empty). Anywho, I found a decent pairing with the Music Fidelity M5si – but I was never truly satisfied. Part of the reason for my disappointment was that I have a pair GoldenEar Triton 7s that are downright holographic (I would highly recommend those towers to anyone) and they stomped on the LS50s. Hence, I never fell in love with my LS50s. Good, but not great. The Metas are significantly better then their predecessor. And I honestly didn’t expect to be impressed. The highs are more precise and smooth/silky (?). Here’s a better measurement: 40% more goosebumps vs legacy LS50s. And now my Tritons have competition.

Owned the original LS50 for years, pretty good mini-monitor but lacked ‘something’. Enter the LS50 Meta. Cold, out of the box, STUNNED. A major upgrade to the LS50 and quite possibly one of the greatest mini-monitor values under your $3k. Blown away by the imaging, transparency, sound stage. And that’s without 100+ hours of break-in. Each day the speakers opened up and kept on blooming.Heed the advice regarding amplification: they need lots of current to sound great. Clean, high power is the key here. Class AB, class A preferred. Forget Class D as an option, you won’t be hearing the true sound signature of the Meta.Highly recommended. Truly blown away by these speakers. Buy them now!

I am replacing larger MA Silver 100s in a small room; these throw up a soundstage that is just insane. I’m thoroughly impressed with the overall sonic quality, ability to vanish sonically, and insane build. Needs very good amplification, however, and a subwoofer, but when all dialed in, darn great sonically.
JD –
These speakers sound great, and a great value for the money. They are very clear and linear from around 80 hz to over 20k hz. I have a receiver with around 100 watts per channel, and that is more than enough power for a medium sized room (16ft x 22ft x 9ft). Although they have good low frequency, I paired them with a new KEF KC62 subwoofer to fill in the below 80 hz spectrum. After tuning with my ears and Audyssey dynamic analyzer, the combination is just about perfect for my needs (music first, 7.1 channel movies second). But they do not come with speaker covers, so they always have that speaker look.
Doug Sandula –
To me, these have the traditional KEF LS50 sound, but enhanced in mid bass, treble, clarity and detail. My ears hear a definite improvement with the META updates. They’re not kind to poorly recorded material, but well recorded music shines. Having a good, properly tuned subwoofer is must. I run and old HSU. Having a good amplifier is also a must. These are just as power hungry as the old LS50’s and seem to prefer AB power sources over D power sources. Don’t discount the amplifier advice as hooking these up to appliance store electronics will fail them. The NAD 3045 and PS Audio Sprout could not power them properly to my ears, thought the Sprout came close at low listening volume. I run them on an IOTA VX stack.

Still breaking these in.First impression: Very, very nice for orchestral music, especially strings. Strings of all kinds sound amazing: guitar, lute, violin–they’re just amazing from Paul O’Dette to Prince.I agree with the assessment that these speakers have a richer lower range than the Anniversary monitor LS50s, to which they are kin in style, size, and precision.I adored and still adore the original Anniversary LS50s for their clarity and dispassion. They rock for transmitting the human voice–sopranos never sounded clearer or more accurate: Absolute faithfulness to the recording, no color added. The Metas are very similar, except–and I haven’t read this elsewhere–they seem tonally warmer. Maybe that’s in the expanded perception of a lower range.I am powering the Metas with a refined Yamaha Natural Sound AS-2000 amp. I revised my setting on Spotify to maximum data and turned off equalization for greater dynamics. There is no point in having speakers that can tell you the whole story of your music unless you feed them lossless or as close as you can come to that.My Yamaha Super Audio CD player provides excellent source material for these Metas. (I have too much invested in this CD collection to dump it or sell it.)I find Yamaha’s best components provide subtlety in addition to power.I haven’t tried yet the Metas’ performance with my monstrous, higher-powered AdCom565SE amp. Familiar with a vast lineup of KEF speakers, I know KEFs like to drink up the juice.I can listen to these speakers for hours, the pleasure in hearing more is so satisfying!Meanwhile, I endorse this suggestion, echoed from other reviewers: Metas will sing their ohms best from an A or AB class amplifier with 80 or more watts per channel, connected with 12 gauge low or no oxygen genuine copper wire. Will they run on less power? Yes. It’s not the mere power that counts, it’s the quality. In any case, it seems unlikely a keen listener will be disappointed in these Metas. You might also want to crack a window. Right out of the box, and for a few days afterward, there is a very strong chemical odor–smells like epoxy, but probably a proprietary magic material KEF invented to house thIs genius.

I’m not an audiophile. Just an average Joe.The Kef LS50 Meta are replacing Polk Audio RTi A7I recently purchased Cambridge CXA81 and CXN V2 network streamer. Wanted a set of speakers to match the level of quality of the amp/streamer.The vocals are so crisp and clear on the KEF LS 50 Meta. The sound stage is very noticeable. Big improvement. I’m pleased with the upgraded Hi-Fi systems.

I am still trying to figure out why Amazon asks for ratings of “Sheerness” and “Thickness”. ??? / Anyway, I read and watched reviews of these speakers before diving in, and then ended building my AV system around them. They are not my first KEF’s, so I knew that KEF brings precision and quality-of-build.I am getting older and have less time to try out “poser” speaker that may look glorious but do not have the physics and acoustics behind them to possibly sound exceptional. At some point, I became interested exclusively in either full range electrostatic or ribbon speakers, or something with phenomenal time-alignment such as a point source. These co-axial driver mini’s are that second category.I played them at first full range and they were great and also surprising in the base. Then I decided on more realism and less stress on their drivers by throwing a Velodyne 1.2 killowatt, powered subwoofer in the mix. My center channel is produced by a 3-driver Martin Logan speaker with a ribbon tweeter and it is fantastic as well. I have moved my full-range electrostatics to the backish, sides of the room for surround sound. (They are Acoustat 1+1’s with the Medallion transformers.)I had to kill sound reflections off our oak floors with a very fluffy rug, a rug pad, and various furniture. This is even more important with these KEF’s on their native, metal, sand-filled stands which are kind of short and close to the floor. The soundstage is fully 3D at this point, and I never knew that there was so much difference in source material.I am very happy with these speakers and they also look fantastic with their designer colors. I chose the off-white, and eventually bought a TV stand to match the KEF’s and their bolted-on stands. These speakers are the cat’s pajamas! ;-)
IS –
These speakers definitely took some time to warm in and were initially not as “transparent” sounding as what I was used to (had been using a pair of Martin Logan bookshelves for a few years), but the overall performance is very, very good. While the Martin Logans probably do a better job with he very high frequencies, the Metas are quite respectable while the midrange is much more rich and full sounding, and the bass response seems notable for a speaker this size. I definitely could use a beefier amp to drive them though. I think 100w and above is advisable to get the most out of them. They are rated at 8 ohms, but I have a hard time believing that. They would definitely benefit from an amp with more headroom.
