Wide, Accurate Frequency Response

Nothing in the Control One is over- or under-emphasized. Delivering a frequency response of 80Hz to 20kHz, this speaker reproduces the full range of sound from deep bass tones to ultra-high frequencies. With JBL speakers, what you hear is true.

Four-inch woofer and 1/2″ titanium-laminate tweeter

When the JBL name is on a speaker, you know you’re getting big, room-rocking bass straight from the professional recording studio. Titanium’s strength and light weight make it perfect for quickly and accurately reproducing crystal-clear high frequencies without strain or distortion, even when the volume is cranked up.

Nice speakers/monitors but I expected the low end to be more pronounced, I have to turn up my low end to get a decent amount of bass but overall quality speakers at a reasonable price.

These are genuine, real, actual STUDIO monitors as used in actual recording studios around the world. There are four or five “classic” small monitors used in studios, and these are one of them.WHATEVER YOU DO, DON’T BUY “powered speakers”. “Powered speakers” are an unbelievable waste of money AND THEY HUM. All powered speakers, even expensive ones from name brands, are utter rubbish. AND THEY ALL HUM, ALL THE TIME. If you want to sit there listening to hum for the rest of your life, buy “powered speakers”.Simply buy the absolutely incredible Fosi amp for 70 bucks (it’s easy to find on Amazon – the ID is like B077GWVHHN on amazon) and then buy the monitors of your choice, such as these classic C1sRegarding JBL C1s, they are simply one of the standard monitors used in studios to make albums, as the final check to “how it will sound in real life”. They’re a “standard”. For me, they are a bit too heavy in bass, but that’s purely a preference and will hugely depend on your room, desk, etc (it would be like saying “do you prefer strat or les paul” – there’s no “answer”.)Be aware that with near-field speakers, they are incredibly sensitive to the position, exact placement etc. Thus, I move these around AN INCH or so relative to the exact place I sit in the chair, and it DRASTICALLY changes the sound. This applies to all small studio monitors.I use these (with the utterly incredible Fosi amp) for working with voice production and, just for me, they’re probably a bit bassy. (But that’s an entirely personal preference.) For music (say, typical pop and rock) they’re incredible.Be aware that the sound experience with near field monitors is TOTALLY different from big speakers in a big room; it’s meant to be. If you just play any ordinary music track you’re familiar with, the Beatles, whatever, through a Fosi and on to these C1s, you’ll literally hear a huge amount of stuff you simply never heard before. But again, just be aware it’s different: the three experiences using (A) headphones (I mean actual studio headphones, not the idiocy sold by consumer companies) (B) large speakers in a large room (C) nearfield studio monitors with a Fosi … all three experiences are drastically different. You really can’t “go wrong” buying JBL C1s as they are so standard. Like in the analogy, pretty much every working guitarist will own a fender strat, sure, they may prefer other guitars or use others for different reasons, but it’s a “standard item”.Again, WHATEVER you do DON’T buy “powered” speakers. Buy a Fosi (70 bucks! one of the best amps in the world!) and buy a pair of speakers like this, and you will be a MILE ahead on sound with NO HUM.If these JBLs are too expensive, there’s the small Behringer passive monitors (also named “C1” for obvious reasons!) at only 80 bucks a pair, awesome at the price. Or for say 3x the price you can get a pair of Auratones (which are the monitors Quincy Jones uses, for example)But whatever you do, buy passive speakers and a Fosi or any amp – don’t buy “powered” monitors, a total ripoff. “Powered speakers” are for convenience music in your kitchen or whatever. But if you need ACTUAL MONITORS to sit by your computing gear to work on audio, do not consider “powered” speakers, buy these JBLs, or the passive monitors of your choice, and a Fosi amp.

Didn’t expect much for the price, but it sounded far better than expectation. Installed them high for surround sound and they perfectly got the job done. One of the best spent $160 for the year. 5 star and recommended!

Made well. Big sound. A lot of booming bass. Can use more treble but still great sound!

The install was awesome. They are really bookshelf speakers, not satellites. Luckily, I had spare room on the walls for them. Check out the spec’d dimensions b4 purchase. Was surprised how sturdy a design the mount was. Didn’t believe it when I opened it, but the mounts are awesome and sturdy—only with a solid surface to screw in to. I’ll worry in in 10 years when the plastic stress fatigues. Btw, I’m keeping that torque rod in my jewelry box so I don’t lose it. By the time the plastic fails, I’m sure my audio will connect to some govt implant. Don’t know speakers. my ear is darn rude. My ears accept these happily.

Aug. 2021 update: Well , speakers didn’t last too long. Both drivers are now “clicking” like crazy. They were never abused, had 125 watts @ 2 ohms driving them, all frequencies below 95hz crossed out. They were great sounding little speakers, just need to be very underpowered.I’m by no means an audio expert, but I really like the sound I’m getting out of these. They don’t sound great by themselves, but when paired with my old Logitech 2300 subwoofer, they sound simply amazing. And they are brand new, not broken in yet. Again, I’m no expert, and I know everybody listens to their music differently, but these are perfect for my ears. Clear voices and instruments, and I finally know what a cymbal is supposed to sound like. Not ear piercing like I have come to know. Running these on an old 8ohm Onkyo receiver. Looking into a better 4 ohm amp. Maybe they’ll sound even better.

I have had many different outdoor speakers and this set of JBL speakers is by far the best set that I have ever purchased. They have an incredibly clear sound, they are solid, the craftsmanship is superb and they are easy to install.

Been a huge JBL fan since the early 70’s. This pair of monitors is typical of what they produced and how I remembered them. They sound very clear and accurate. With a powerful amp, they can be very loud. The clarity will only be as good as the source signal provided to them. You could spend a great deal more on other sat speakers that would not sound better. Probably many of those wouldn’t sound nearly as good as these. Currently, we use 4 of these speakers in a 7.1 Home Theater system. The other two sats are small Klipsch 2-way speakers. They all do not emit any strong or deep bass but they were not designed to do that. Neither is the Center channel in this type of setup. With a good sub along with a top-shelf center speaker, driven with a clear 100 watt or larger amp/receiver setup, the sound stage is very nice. Without a doubt, they would not hold back the quality of sound that was being reproduced. These Control 1 Pro speakers look to be very well made with a sturdy plastic cabinet. The provided speaker hanger hardware works well too. Hard to go wrong with these speakers.

I bought mine used (not amazon) about 7 years ago. I have them now in my garage. I input my devices in 1/4 Audio input on my xenyx 802 mixer. Then to a NAD 2600A(2x channels @ 150W each). The speakers are both combined on one channel of the amp. The other channel goes to a guitar speaker.I play my KAT KT4 through it, I play my guitar through it, I play music through it by using a Samson wireless guitar system connected to my iPhone, the wireless system receiver is plugged in the mixerWith my setup things get loud. I turn it up and my brother in law can hear me 4 streets down. And that’s with amp barely half way.The speakers stay crystal clear. Bass is decent and great for the size of this speaker.- still alive after 7 years and used prior….👍- Able to handle 150w and still sound great…👍-Able to handle a wide range of devices…..👍-Great Value…..👍I set this system up because it’s stuff I have accumulated over the years and didn’t want to buy yet another thing.

I use these speakers for my desktop computer. I listen in front of my desk which is very near. The speakers are a little big(5.25″), but acceptable. And these speakers can be placed in horizontal, so they can be placed under monitors horizontally if you have monitor arms, which is a big plus for my desktop setup, I have dual monitor setup and the monitor will not block these speakers. As suggested from other comments I bought a fosi audio amp TDA7498E 160w x 2, the result is not so good. If you listen in front of your desk, you do not need a 160w amp, actually the fosi audio TDA7498E never can reach 160w, but still too large, I can only turn 10% volume at most and the sound is already very loud. Also it has noticeable background electric current noise from the speakers, which is not acceptable.I purchased a second hand nuforce icon amp from ebay instead. This amp is maybe 10 years old, it can output 24w at 4ohm(JBL C1Pro), but it is really enough for listening from desktop. Actually I did not turn more than 50% of the volume. Though the nuforce icon amp is very old, it has almost no background noise, which is much superior than the fosi audio amp. Personally I also think the audio quality is better, too.I also has a CamBridge audio DacMagic 100 dac, connected to my computer. The combination of DacMagic, Icon Amp and JBL C1Pro is really good. They produce fantastic sound. Both DacMagic and Icon Amp are very old products, currently you have more choices at low price. But please purchase qualified dac and amp, not the DIY ones, or from unknown companies, which may not be reliable. Do not look at the numbers, such as 160w, they may be fake, and you may not need such a powerful output for near field listening. I think at most 30w amp from any big audio companies should be sufficient for desktop listening.
