I spent some time reading reviews of various speakers at different price points and finally settled on these because they seemed to receive almost universal praise, while staying well within my budget. There’s a risk to buying moderately expensive speakers without hearing them first, or knowing if they will be suitable for your particular set up. In terms of Amazon purchases, this was possibly the best risk I have ever taken. These speakers are truly amazing. At this price point (just under $350), they represent terrific value. My particular set up is a simple 3.5mm jack (included) connected to my laptop on a large desktop. I use a graphic equalizer that came with the computer. The speakers additionally have bass, treble and volume knobs on the rear of the ‘active’ right speaker to enable you to tweak as needed. An optical port is included, as well as the traditional RCA inputs. There is also a coaxial input. The speakers are Bluetooth compatible, and to get the most out of this functionality, you will need the latest software, though a quick question about backwards compatibility I posed to the seller indicated that they will pair with any device that supports A2DP. I planned to test this out, but I have been so pleased and impressed with the 3.5mm direct input, that I haven’t felt inclined to bother. The set comes with small remote that operates volume, mute and power, as well as the ability to switch between inputs. The active right speaker displays a different LED color depending on the input. The speakers are appropriately heavy (as all good quality bookcase speakers should be) and are made to a high construction standard with high quality materials. My understanding is that Edifier is a Chinese company. While we’re all very used to seeing ‘Made in China’ on practically everything, I got a certain amount of satisfaction with buying something that was made in China by an actual Chinese company. After using these speakers frequently for about a month, I will echo the point raised by others, that you can listen to old and well-established favorites on these things and be completely surprised by the amount of detail in the music that you’ve been missing. They do an extremely good job at picking out individual instruments and components within the music with great clarity, without overwhelming the sound. I occasionally listen to music that has a hell of a lot going on at once, and these speakers handle it all with great poise and balance between high treble and low, pounding bass so that nothing gets distorted, without that odd processed sound that I’ve experienced with Bose products in the past. These speakers are very powerful. The vast majority of users should have no complaints about power. Though your neighbors might. In conclusion, you feel like these speakers were made with high respect and regard for music, allowing the listener to explore each individual part and instrument to the fullest. What else can you honestly say after that? I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.____________________________________November 2020 Update – still performing flawlessly after over four years. Outstanding audio quality no matter what you throw at these.

Speaker reviewI received these speakers a few hours again. Plugged them in, fired them up with an extra Echo Dot I had lying around, and went, “Huh.” There was no booming bass, no sounds like I usually get from electronics, no screaming treble. In short, these beautiful speakers didn’t sound like speakers at all!I have two degrees in music performance, so I’m used to going to and participating in live performances. My taste runs mostly to classical music, but I like the occasional foray into pop and rock music as well. Listening to my favorite classical music station, I finally relaxed into a posture of listening as if I was at a live performance. It wasn’t hard. I could hear every note coming from the double basses as if they were right there on stage a few feet away. The whole orchestra sounded fresh and clear, with no instrument standing out. When the announcer came on to say what was next, it was as if he was sitting in a chair in front of me.In short, these speakers sound like no speakers I’ve ever heard, and in my 69 years on this planet, I’ve heard a bunch! My only regret is that I waited a week or two before I actually ordered them.As a bonus, my TV running through the optical input has come alive. I have this setup in the Master Bedroom. We like to watch Fallon before turning out the lights, and I’ve heard notes from the Roots Crew Band I’ve never heard before.Bonus #2: I blue-toothed my iPhone X easily to these speakers. Schumann’s piano music sounded just like someone was playing my grand piano right there in my bedroom.Volume is just fine. I don’t even fiddle with the volume control – it’s fine right in the middle where it is when you power up these speakers. Plenty loud for TV, radio, and iPhone. But if I ever need it louder, there are plenty of decibels to spare! The remote is brain dead easy to use, and plenty small, too.If you’re on the fence about these speakers, just close your eyes and buy them. I wish I had them two weeks ago when I first read about them!

These S1000DB speakers replaced my $50 computer speakers, which until now had sounded really good to me. During the trade I switched the sound back and forth between the $50 computer speakers and these Edifier S1000DB speakers. I was amazed at how “cardboardy” my $50 computer speakers sounded compared to these S1000DB speakers.I bought these speakers because I got back into listening to vinyl and needed something that would reproduce the great vinyl sound better than my $50 computer speakers. These speakers sound great. I can hear individual instruments clearly in an orchestra. After I added a tube pre-amp to my turntable, the sound got even better. These speakers do a great job of playing what you send them. The only speakers I had that ever sounded lots better than these were some electrostatic speakers I had years ago. For the price though, these are very very very good!

I was able to grab these speakers on a lightning flash sale for $280. What a deal! I immediately set these up connected to my PC via the included optical cable. Wow do these sound good! I love good audio and have a collection of speakers in my home theater room (Mainly Polk’s). I must say for music listening these are the best speakers I have listened too. I make frequent trips to best buy and Nebraska furniture mart to listen to multi-thousand dollar speakers, and I would honestly rather listen to these. Put on Hotel California from the Live Hell freezes over album in FLAC and let your body resonate with the warm tones these speakers are able to produce. I am still in the break in period but can already start hearing a difference in quality. Bass in particular is getting better as time moves on. I only used Bluetooth once with apt x and while it sounded good, I will not be wasting the sound quality of these speakers by playing through Bluetooth. Optical will generate the best sound out of these and I will not settle for less than the best these can produce.Right now these are setup as my PC speakers, I have a big desk, so the size doesn’t bother me too much, but they are about as big as bookshelf speakers can be. Once I move into my new house, these will be setup as listening speakers in my living room. Without a sub-woofer, I would not use these as home theater speakers, but as general TV watching / Gaming they would be fine. Music listening on these puppy’s is where they truly shine.

I’m mostly a headphones guy and I don’t have much experience with speakers, but these are the best I’ve ever heard. I have them hooked up to a Chromecast Audio with optical cable and Fiio DAC and I’m playing lossless music files, it sounds great with lots of punchiness and detail. When I first hooked them up they sounded a bit bright and didn’t have much bass, but they’re starting to break in and the bass is becoming more apparent. The speakers seem to be very solidly constructed and have a nice weight to them.

Before I give my input on these speakers, I’d like to give you a little background – I own the Edifier 1700’s, Klipsch RF-82’s, Audioengine’s A5+, and a host of other speakers from mid grade to upper-end audiophile quality speakers. I consider myself to have a pretty good ear for quality, all of my vehicles (Including my wives) have full component speakers, and are separately amplified. With that being said, I was expecting quite a bit out of these at the price of 349.99, especially at almost three times the cost of my 1700’s (Which are excellent for the size).Unboxing -They were packaged excellently! They were shipped inside an amazon box, and inside the Amazon box is the outer edifier protector box, and finally the box with the speakers in them. A delivery driver would be hard pressed to hurt these speakers, you could literally throw them around and inside three boxes they are safe. Very impressed Edifier went the extra mile to double box it (and amazon to put it in another box on top of that!).Build Quality -The build quality on these is incredible for the price, it is on par or even above my Klipsch’s or audiogene’s, the attention to detail is excellent and the fit and finish are on point. I was a little worried about the picture of the wood, that it would be too “Oaky” looking for my taste, but the color was quite a bit warmer than it looked in the pictures which were a nice surprise. These things are heavy! Even the speaker without the amplifier is very hefty for its size. they did not skimp on material or build quality in the cabinet. The only thing I’m personally not a fan of is there is no grill tabs around the tweeter which make it a little flimsy. The remote control works well and is a HUGE improvement over the plasticky remote that came with my 1700’s. It almost feels as if it’s made out of aluminum, and has a little weight to it. Also, the including cables are a nice touch. It comes with a Toslink optical cable, 3.5MM Aux to RCA, and RCA’s. The cable between speakers is very long and high quality.Sound Quality -This is what it’s actually all about right? I’ve heard many speakers, and own quite a few myself as previously stated, and all I can say is they are exceptional. If these speakers were $499, I still think they would be an excellent deal, which is a lot coming from me, considering the fact that I’m kind of cheap and always looking for a deal. The high’s, mid’s and low’s blend together flawlessly. The tweeters are not shrill, they sound extremely uncolored and natural. I feel as if most speakers (especially self-amplified) lack either mid’s, or low’s, and are one or the other type speakers, and I can absolutely say that these S1000DB’s do both, exceptionally well, and with clarity that you don’t find in this price range. The frequency response in the lower end, in my listening room, which is a little biased to help the lower end, with corner placed speakers and listening area in the rear center, helps the low’s a bit acoustically. These dug much deeper than they claimed to. Response from Edifier is down to 48HZ. I tested these and they stayed steady down to 37HZ -3DB! That is literally incredible considering their size (5.5″ Woofers), and even more incredible considering it does the low’s so well, while also having excellent sounding mids. They do get quite loud, I would say they are very efficient speakers. Plenty loud for me, I don’t think I’ll ever turn them up past 75%. They do sound flat and undistorted to maximum volume.I could literally almost find no cons with these. A+ To edifier for making these affordable and without compromise on sound quality or build quality.

Believe all the other reviews- these set of speakers are truly amazing and if they are positioned and placed appropriately they will fill the room with clear and deep sound. I now hear new elements in old songs that really surprise me and the soundstage is incredible for this price. I would recommend getting speaker stands, this really helped to amplify and distribute the bass and I can feel great mids and highs in the whole room Without a subwoofer. One con is that you need to disconnect one device from Bluetooth in order to connect another one.

Briefly, looking for wireless speakers for my wife in a new house. There seems to be a lot of junk out there, small single speakers and the like, maybe not really junk. Also, I was really learning about bluetooth speakers, never having purchased them before. I stumbled upon these, this was roughly the price range I was looking for, and the reviews here and elsewhere were generally positiveWe set them up and we were all blown away by (a) how good they sound for bookshelf speakers that are not that large (though heavy, especially the one with the amp in it, the right one); the bass is good, better than I expected across a range of music, and that’s leaving the bass control in the neutral position, the mids and highs are excellent, the volue is fine for an open-ended living room that abuts the kitchen; and (b) the ease of connecting via bluetooth across different sources (multiple cell phones, my laptop, my wife’s tablet); amd (c) combining (a) and (b), the sound coming through these bluetooth speakers was remarkable, my first expereince, whatever compression exists with bluetooth was not that noticeable and I have pretty good ears (if a bit old) for audio sound.I had never heard of edifier before, but will attend to them in the future. My brother-in-law (a cabinet designer and builder in the past who is still quite skills with wood) claimed that the wood is not really wood, but you could fool me. The level of detail on these is quite good. They do not look cheap, but rather quite the opposite, very well built with attention to detail. Personally, I thought they looked kind of ugly in the pictures I’ve seen and was pleasant surprised by how nice they look in reality. The price seems commensurate with the qulity. These were $50 US cheaper here at Amazon compared to some other on-line retailers where I usually shop for this sort of stuff.Anyway, my wife loves these, just loves them, which for me adds to their value as they were a Christmas present to her. I really was not sure if these were going to work out, and they did so perfectly.

The media could not be loaded. Originally was shopping for monitors for my synthesizer, and stumbled across reviews for these speakers. Saw a sound demo of Edifier speakers vs JBL monitors and they went toe to toe, but having the Bluetooth capability so that I can listen to my music on command via Alexa (Amazon Unlimited) was the tipping point. These speakers are excellently packaged and well protected during delivery. The package was 45 lbs. cuz these speakers are built like a tank! The real solid wood sides are rather attractive and the speaker covers are also elegant and sleek, but are sheer allowing the looks of the drivers and tweeters to be appreciated. They don’t seem to diffuse the sound at all IMO.Now, for the record, I’m new to the speaker game, but I’ve listened to some outstanding audiophile approved equipment, so I appreciate hearing music as it was meant to be heard, and these speakers opened up old familiar tunes and brought out detail and nuance. I couldn’t stop grinning for an hour when I plugged it in, connected the two speakers with the surprisingly robust cable, and connected my echo dot via Bluetooth. My 21 year old daughter said it simply and best when she remarked “These speakers are making me really excited about music!” I’ve only had them a few days and haven’t even finished a burn in, but they have met and exceeded expectations thus far. I moved them into an adjacent bedroom with the door shut to paint and enjoy music, and thanks to Bluetooth aptx they suffer absolutely no connection issues. Still yet to hook them up to my Korg synthesizer, but I am expecting that to sound amazing as well. The 120W provide plenty of room filling sound and would excel as home theater speakers as well with excellent bass response. I sense no distortion of sound even at max volume, which is pretty darn loud. Truthfully, I wanted the Edifier S2000Pro, but Edifier has taken them off the market for some reason, so I went with these after seeing so many glowing reviews. I love them and wish I could take them with me everywhere I go. My next purchase will be some proper speaker stands, so they can be elevated to an optimal listening position. An excellent investment for lovers of music!UPDATE: Had these for about 5 weeks now and I got some Edifier speaker stands which put them at the perfect height for my man cave. Highly recommend them. Also found that wire connecting my Amazon echo dot to the speakers gives even more powerful sound than bluetooth. Also, the synthesizer sounds awesome through them! I attached a video of my daughter just fiddling around with my Korg running thru the speakers, but it’s just a phone video that doesn’t do it justice.February 2019 UPDATE: These speakers still perform flawlessly. I use them to play music, basically all my instruments (synth, guitar, vocals, drum machine), and bluetooth my phone thru them on occasion. Its so easy to transition between them all with the remote. I have been so happy with them I bought some smaller Edifiers for my office at work.December 2019 Update: These speakers are still kickin butt, with frequent, nearly daily use. And they are on and powered pretty much 100% of the time. Last weekend, I used them outside for a Christmas movie display outside in the front yard. We had a projector displaying onto a movie screen and watched Elf, Christmas Vacation & Die Hard, and the Edifiers took care of the sound. There was a small amount of frost on them by the time we finished but they are still working flawlessly. These speakers may be the best music entertainment purchase I have ever made.
