Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: My TV speakers go silent (become muted) when I use the Avantree 2.4G wireless TV headphones HT280. Can I make them work simultaneously while using the transmitter?

A: This is a TV feature and its availability depends on your TV make and model.

For many models of TV, the built-in speakers might not work if you choose to use an external speaker. They will either automatically mute when you plug something into an audio output port (AUX, RCA, Optical, etc.) or they become disabled once you choose “External Speakers” as your TV’s audio output. Some newer TVs however, allow you to play audio from both the TV’s internal speakers and an external audio device simultaneously. For example the newer LG TVs with WebOS versions 3.0 and 3.5 have this feature but Samsung TVs still do not. In the LG TV WebOS 3.0 / 3.5 example, you can enable this feature by changing the TV AUDIO OUT setting from “Internal TV Speaker” to “Internal TV Speaker + Optical”. Now all audio will simultaneously come from both your TV’s speakers and the device connected to the digital optical audio output port.

If your TV does not support this feature, then you can consider the Avantree HT5009 / HT5006 and an external speaker. The Avantree Oasis Plus transmitter has a convenient bypass feature which allows you to share the TV audio simultaneously with an EXTERNAL SPEAKER and a pair of Bluetooth headphones.

I purchased these on Dec 17th and overall we’re very pleased, they’re for my wife. Her hearing is bad in one ear and very bad in the other, hearing aids give some comfort but they’re not perfect. With these headphones she can set the volume to a level not available on her other hearing aids (headsets, buds etc.).Closed captioning on television is nice to have but it’s not always as smooth as we’d like and the placement on the screen can be annoying. She has tried a variety of headsets and ear buds over the years but none of them were ‘very’ good. This headphone set we heard about from a friend represents the proverbial ‘godsend’.The volume level on these headphones is pretty amazing, I didn’t realize how loud they could be set until I put them on one day to test them and almost “blew one ear off” :-) had to quickly rip them off my head. So, be warned, these are not the typical headphone and caution should be exercised where they’re kept if small children are around. It would also be nice if each ear could be adjusted separately, if you have one good ear and one bad ear you’re going to be limited how high you make the volume for the bad ear.The first thing she noticed other than being able to hear clearly again was she could walk around the house (2400 sq ft) and still listen without interruption. :-)We did end up having one problem though. We traveled to visit friends out of state and I was not able to get them working on the Marriott hotel’s LG television (55LX340H) no matter what I did even with the Optical connection being detected. Of course, these specialized, commercial, hospitality-grade televisions don’t allow guests to get into Settings to make any adjustments so I was ‘fighting with a short stick’ as they say.Strangely(?), the headphones would not turn on as if the batteries were not charged. The green light on the Transmitter Charging Dock was on and never went off. Pressing the Power button did nothing BUT viewing it in low-light conditions I could barely see a very dim red light if I held the power button down so thought the batteries were at end-of-life. This was very disappointing for my wife and she spent the week with closed-captioning.I was hoping when we got home they would miraculously start working again…unh unh, not so. Anyway I left them setup and over a couple of days tried turning them on occasionally. I did try other rechargeable batteries that we use in our Panasonic home phone system but they were not recognized, guess they really mean it when they say use ONLY their batteries. So, I went to their site and tried ordering their batteries but the Website did not play well, their “three_d_secure Gateway Rejected…” the transaction as it detected inaccurate information. I tried half a dozen times and gave up, also tried with different Browsers and computers to no avail. And then, totally unexpected now, they started working again, couldn’t believe it! My wife is very happy with the ‘resurrection’ and they continue to work as expected. During this diagnostic phase I also learned there’s an Audio EIA connector on the bottom of the left earpiece I hadn’t noticed and with the accompanying Audio EIA cable we’re able to connect to her cell phone and to the Panasonic house phones with an adapter. Wow, is she happy! https://smile.amazon.com/Josi-Minea-Converter-Headphone-Earphone/dp/B011S90G46/So, I finally went to Avantree’s Support page and submitted a ticket. I heard back quickly from Sara and she was very helpful. I was able to submit an RMA Order for no charge and have received their batteries. I’ll wait until I need them before checking them out.In the meantime while all this was going on I had gone to Amazon and ordered the Avantree batteries but they won’t be delivered until January 30-31.Again, my wife is very pleased with this purchase and I’m happy the Support is so responsive.

The step-by-step instructions were very clear with good diagrams about how to connect my headphones to my smart TV and get them operational. Unfortunately, despite multiple attempts, I could not physically connect the included optical cable to the recommended optical connection port of my Visio television. In the end, I had to connect to my television to the headset using the included RCA cable which worked perfectly. My headset sound is incredibly clear, I can hear programs from the farthest reaches of our home, and the headphones quickly adjust to fit both myself and my husband. The headset is very comfortable to wear with our hearing aids left in. The headset volume is easy to change up and down, it’s easy to charge, and turning the headset on and off is very easy as well. I am thrilled with this purchase!

I bought the headphones to watch tv without disturbing anyone. They arrived in 3 days and took less than 5 minutes to connect. The directions that came with the headphones were very easy to understand. They work great and I especially like that the volume is not limited.

    Tomorrow maybe

For months on end i have been reading and listening to review after review of different wireless headphones for gaming and televisions . I ordered a couple of gaming headphones that thought would bridge my pc to stereo quality , but that was short lived in that the software wasn’t compatible with all my computers of Windows 10 and 7 and XP which i all have connected to my Sony HDMI -DTS Receiver from 20 years ago . So my search was narrowed to the Avantree HT280 and the ARTISTE Wireless TV Headphones ( 2 versions ) one priced higher than the other ( confusing ). Because of that …i ruled out the ARTISTE , and went with the Avantree HT280 .The choice is just what i needed , as they provided all the plugs i needed to connect the unit to my Receiver .It was too easy actually , red and white out of reciever to red and white of the Avantree .On my Sony unit i have an audio out … ( red and white ) . But i also have a Blu-ray out as well for my blu- ray unit.My Sony receiver sends out only 1 out signal at a time apparently , as the Bluray sound wasnt there accept if i connected the ( red and white out ) from the Avantree to the Headhone jack plug ( supplied) to my receiver in the front . That did the trick for me .Ok your probably wondering about sound quality . The sounds are uncomplainable , as they are rich and distinct with Dolby 5.0 and 7.0 . The Base range is about a 7 on a scale from ( 1 to 10 ) and cannot be criticized for what its worth . The volume controls are very ( high ranging ) and will not be a problem if you get them for Granny with a hearing loss. ( i highly recommend these ) for just such circumstances .The Headphone quality is very good , but i recommend not to be pitching these around if you have teenagers or young ones about . Handle them with care and take care of them . They are of sturdy quality , but all it takes is 1 unruly child to destroy anything of importance in your household.I am about 6 feet , with a slightly pointy head ( forceps at birth ) thing .. but these fit well and are comfortable, with ample ear space .Over all i am extremely pleased . and would highly recommend this review on YOUTUBE :Avantree HT280, HT4189 & Oasis Plus: Setup And Walk-through byJust Doin’ Life TV……… He convinced me , and hopefully you too .

No problems on set-up. I really like the quality of sound. The headphones produce a full range of sound quality with rich bass and crisp high frequencies. I connected the HT280 to a VIZIO 55″. After reading the directions thoroughly, I choose the optical cable option then connected the AC power, plugged in the Optical cable, switch the rear mounted selector switch for optical feed and let it charge for a day with the headphones on the charger. First time start-up went perfect. I got a You Tube Vid running first then selected the VISIO AUDIO menu to switch the speakers to the OFF mode as the directions said to. It worked! I think I’ll frame this set-up day. So easy! You can have the speakers on if you want and have the headphones on. So if you want to crank the audio in the headphones but have the speakers quiter, that’s an option for you. I highly recommend the Avantee HT280.

I really enjoyed this product the audio was much clearer than Sony s version. But what I really liked is the customer support for this item. The product did break down on me and after talking to Avantree customer support they sent me a brand new replacement which was actually an upgrade(HT4189). This one takes less space and is crystal clear. If your looking at this one you might want to consider getting the newer model.

I did not know how to get both headphones to work together, and Avantree was great with the instructions on how to get that done.I really like over-the-ear headphones, since it helps getting rid of any background noises and I can enjoy the movie totally. The ear pads are very comfortable. I had no problem using the headphones throughout a whole evening of watching TV. my upstairs tenants are very happy that I got them because now my husband and I can keep things quiet in the house.

I got these so I could watch tv without worrying about others in the house hearing the language or violence (e.g.Walking Dead). I would have to have the volume turned down so low that I couldn’t hear what was being said so it was a pain to watch any shows. I was worried about the sound quality but it is really good and I hear so much more of the shows that I was missing before. I looked at several options when considering wireless headphones but settled on these just in case they weren’t great I wouldn’t be out too much money. However I am very satisfied with them and think I made the right choice.I first plugged them directly into the TV but was getting static and could hardly hear anything which had me worried. Once I plugged them into the cable box (Joey) there wasn’t static and the sound is great. The only complaint, if that, is during deep lows of music the left ear cuts out for a second or two. I haven’t used them for more than a couple hours at a time so can’t attest to the battery length. But so far so good.

My wife had started to want the speaker volume on the TV increasingly loud (yes, we are old folks). I worried about getting headphones for her because she hates to wear hats, saying that they give her headaches. She wears these headphones without a problem, however. Before I bought the headphones, I looked at the sound settings on my television to be sure the TV was able to accommodate headphones. It is an LG, and research I did online warned me that LG TV’s were notorious for not pairing with regular bluetooth headphones. That’s why I bought the Avantree – it had its own transmitter so I didn’t have to worry about whether or not regular bluetooth headphones would pair with my TV. I was able to use the optical audio cable between the TV and the transmitting station. Something I missed the first time around was to change the audio format on the TV to PCM and to set the optical/coaxial switch on the transmitting station to OPT. You will get no sound through the headphones until you do this. A PCM setting is one of the things to check in the sound settings on your TV before buying these headphones. Since only my wife will be using the headphones, I selected the option in the sound section of the TV that lets sound come through both headphones and internal speakers. That way we only need one set of headphones and I can still listen to the sound through the speakers. Having done those things, the headphones worked fine and sound also came through the speakers. An unintended advantage is that I am up earlier than my wife and may have a sporting event recorded from the previous day on the DVR. I can turn the sound through the speakers completely off and watch my sporting event using the headphones. The same holds true if I take a nap during the day and she wants to watch something on the TV. An important feature of the headphones is that there really is no delay between the sound and the character’s lip movement. That would be disqualifying, but it works OK.

this was the fourth headset combo tried ~ the first 3 were defective, sound was awful & laggy & although manufacturer assured their would work with the specific TV, it did not. Theses were reputable brands that cost more than the HT280 Wireless Headphones & required extra adapters too :(Ordered this combo set, with everything needed to hook up to TV and received it 3 days later. Followed the very easy to follow instructions & had everything connected in 45 minutes – hardest part was hooking audio cable to TV, but that is because Vizio puts their ports in weird places!! Was a little worried about volume due to previous reviews, but found the volume to go louder than I needed it, so was very happy. For some, the ear part may not be the greatest (better for smaller than larger ears) but they are comfortable & block all external sounds as a noise-cancelling headset should. AMAZING quality & reasonable price, plus quick shipping & wonderful seller!!!!
